[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
One more unusual image from the same ice storm as the two previous posts, this one a bit more abstract.

The shot was taken within minutes of the sky clearing for the first time after the storm passed. The grass stalks are Spartina or a similar salt marsh grass, protruding from brackish water in a marsh pool that had been filled about an hour before by a very high tide. The exposed portion had been coated with fresh water ice during the storm, and then partially melted from below as the water rose with the tide.

The appearance of the "grassicles" relates to both of my previous two posts. They are brightly lit by the direct sun, about 30 degrees off axis to the upper left. This limits the possibilites for clean reflections, which don't seem to be very common anyway.

The light hitting the ice surface seems to be diffused and is mostly not refracted coherently. I think this is because the ice surface is mostly rough, possibly like in my "Ice Weirdness" post. But some exceptions to this are also visible if you look carefully (see the detail shot in the workshop, labeled A/B/C). In these exceptions, it is possible to see the refracted sky, as in my previous post, "Many Frozen Suns".

tech note- slight contrast and brightness adjustment, single step PS sharpening, nothing else
