Flying from branch to branch in a European Yew (Taxus baccata), this Goldcrest did not care of me. I could surprise him with the flash.
The Goldcrest (Regulus regulus) is the smallest European bird, measuring from 8.5 to 9.5cm and weighing as little as 5g. It is dull greenish above, with buff/white underparts, two white wingbars, and a plain face with a conspicuous black eye. The crown has black sides and a narrow black front, and a bright central crest, orange in the male and yellow in the female, which is displayed during breeding. It is a restless species, constantly on the move as it searches for insects. (Wikipedia)
Photo taken this afternoon, in a very cold sunny day.

Hello Catherine,
Great capture of a male Goldcrest on a spray of Yew. These little birds are sp active and not easy to photograph but you managed to time a fine sharp freeze with his wings partially open. Good use of flash too.
Thanks for sharing this delight,
Happy 2009 to you too!

Ciao Catherine, splendid composition with lovely little bird, great light and colors, fascinating blurry BG, very well done, Happy New Year to you, ciao Silvio

Hello Catherine
This is just about perfect in my book.
The Goldcrest is a minute bird and so active as you say...A lovely natural scene and I personally love the movement in the subject.
All the best

Hello Catherine,

I like very much the composition of your photo. The verticaly placed branch and the bird with open wings make the image very dinamic. The yellow crest of the bird atract viewer attention. Moreover the blurry background helps focusing on the branch and bird.

Thank you for sharing,

Hi Catherine,

a rare, funny and very successful shot of this tiny Goldcrest indeed! How its hanging on while frantically moving its wings, just great.

My best wishes for the New Year to you, Catherine

Preciosa composición Catherine. Buena luz y bello conjunto.

Hello Catherine,
A very cute capture of the little Goldcrest desperately trying to hang on to the Yew branch. Good focus on the eye and very good timing. A beautiful composition too. I've never managed to capture this little one even though it is quite common here!
Many thanks and regards, Ulla
