This is the last in my Freezing Rain series. Even a simple clump of dried grass can be transformed to a thing of beauty.

Freezing rain develops as falling snow encounters a layer of warm air deep enough for the snow to completely melt and become rain. As the rain continues to fall, it passes through a thin layer of cold air just above the surface and cools to a temperature below freezing. However, the drops themselves do not freeze, a phenomena called supercooling (or forming "supercooled drops"). When the supercooled drops strike the frozen ground (power lines, or tree branches), they instantly freeze, forming a thin film of ice, hence freezing rain.

Hi Evelynn,
What a beauty this is, the golden grasses cover with ice. Simple yet so elegant is the composition. Can you imagine the extra weight on branches, powerlines and such. Great work my friend.

Hi Evelynn! Yes I'm still around and thought I'd drop by. Beautiful composition and texture in this image!

Nicely done Evelynn,
When I first viewed your thumbnail photo I thought it was some kind of thistle. Your freezing rain series were wonderful!!
With this much white the exposure is tricky, but you nailed it with this shot!!
Isn't it neat how ice has transformed an otherwise common clump of dried grass into beautiful artwork!!

I love the colours and seeing how the layers i=of ice are covering the grasses.

Hi Evelynn

Hi Evelynn

This is again very beautiful and amazing!
As James said, too, such a thing is extremely rare for Europe so thanks for your extended presentation of this phenomenon.
You managed to show us another beautiful geometric side of nature here in such an exceptional condition. Very beautifully composed and presented.
I also like the very exact exposure here and the terrific details all over. I'm not too sure on the frame...but that's a matter of personal taste :)

Cheers, TFS and Happy New Year!

Smarty pants..or should I say "Arty-Pants"...this is the artist in you...Every so often you let down your guard and do a VERY nice almost minimal abstract..I invent words...so don't write and ask:-))) Beautiful image [email protected]

hello Evelynn

you are right when you write : « simple clump of
dried grass can be transformed to a thing of beauty »,
a beautiful « nature morte » shot with the beautiful
golden colours surrounded by the freezing rain, TFS

Ciao Evelynn, lovely winter composition,
I like a lot

Hello Evelynn

This is a fountain of beauty.
The clump looks like a crystal fireworks burst.
Nicely composed in the frame.
The details are sharp.

Hello Evelynn,
Very strange Newton's law isn't effective here...
You should expect that through the weight everything goes down in terms of gravity:-)
Even if I consume an ice cream....no that's no good example.
Anyway a happy 2009 and tons of images..

Hello Evelyn,
Very lovely image, beautiful natural colors,
good exposure, excellent composition, nice
artisic photo.

Hi Evelynn!

I just have made a tour through your gallery and I realize that I have missed a lot of beautiful pictures during my holidays. I stopped over at this picture because it's a kind I like very much. It's so delicate, and the colours are superb. The title suits the subject very well.

It's magical... and will be one of my favourites!

Kind regards

Hello Evelynn,
Frosty grass is something we often see here but icy grass occurs rarely and this is a superb capture! A lovely simple composition with great focus and in beautiful colours.
Many thanks and cheers, Ulla

Hi Evelynn,
That really is a very thick layer of ice. I've only experienced it once while living in Atlanta and know what a nuisance it can be but also how wonderfully it can transfer a scenery.
I like your clean composition and just love that touch of golden light.
