A Fulmar on her 'nest' at Bempton Cliffs nature reserve. The bird is actually sitting on one of the 'shelfs' of the cliff and what you see in the background is the sea almost 100 meters below.

From Birdguides:

Fulmar (Fulmarus glacialis)

In: Northern Fulmar Ca: Fulmar Da: Mallemuk De: Eissturmvogel Es: Fulmar boreal Fi: myrskylintu Fr: Fulmar boréal It: Fulmaro Nl: Noordse Stormvogel No: Havhest Pt: Fulmar-glacial Sv: Stormfågel US: Northern Fulmar Ru: Глупыш

Fulmars look more like gulls than petrels but their grey wings have pale patches in the primaries and are always held stiffly, either horizontally or slightly bowed. The whiteness of their bodies and relative thickness of their head gives them the nickname of 'flying milk bottle'. At close range their strange bill, like an unfinished Airfix kit, proves that these birds have the tube nose typical of the petrel family.

Breeds colonially on cliff-ledges, also on the ground and on buildings in remote areas. Winters at sea.

The young birds are fed on a regurgitated oily liquid which smells utterly foul. It can therefore be used as a successful repellent since both adults and young can squirt it for distances up to three feet towards any predator, or human, which approaches the nest.

Birds usually return to inspect breeding colonies, prior to nesting during November and December.

Hi Pekka,

I never would have known that was the sea behind the Fulmar. The scene is beautiful as he seems to be studying the pink flowers. Excellent colors, details and composition.

A photo in a spectacular beautiful colour combination and a perfect composition. Very good low POV.

Ciao Pekka, wonderful bird and beautiful flowers, fantastic colors and splendid light, very well done, ciao Silvio

Hi Pekka,

Gorgeous combination of this fulmar and the beautiful flower in focus. The sea is so far away so the cliff is really tall. Well framed and beautifully presented.

Have a nice weekend ahead.

Hello Pekka,
This is wonderful. You have composed the picture beautifully with the Fulmar and pink flowers in the foreground. The sea in the background nicely isolates the nesting bird in the picture.

Hello Pekka
She looks like she has picked a pretty place to have her nest among the flowers. And a dangerous place too on the shelf of the cliff.
Very good capture
