Hello,

this was taken late Saturday afternoon, at a spot called Cadnam Pond, in the New Forest.
This place has actually featured on TN many times through the lenses of Nick Glen (nglen) and Vinny Blood (Vinster), but only to serve as a superb location for photographing many different species of our smaller feathered friends, which they both do so well.
The weather in the UK has been somewhat chilly over the past few weeks to say the least, and this pool of water has been locked in ice for sometime now, save for a small open patch that the hardy Ducks are crammed into.
We went here to feed them initially, but as the sun was setting after a grey, overcast day, it peeked through the overcast clouds enough to cast a few weak rays onto the ice. I quickly fired off a few shots before it dissappeared...and this is one of them, hope you like it.

shot in RAW, adjusted curves, increased saturation + 6, dodged the ice in the FG lightly, converted to JPEG, resized and sharpened.

Thanks for looking...

Hi Paul!

Isn't it a great season for landscape photographers, eh? I may be cold, windy or snowing, the winter gives us magnificent and so various subjects. Your picture represents this at best. The usual low point of view creates a fine perspective, the eye is lead to the sun... superb!

Kind regards

Markus

Beautiful capture of this pond in the evening light.
Lovely textures colours and details.

Hello Paul !
I know what you mean when you speak about chilly weather, it's the same here, in France. Everything is frozen. But I'm happy about it, if it serves to do such great pictures as this one. Very nicely composed, with excellent low POV, and I also like the beautiful evening light and the orange sun hiding behind the clouds. Wonderful sky. The texture on the ice looks great, too. Very well done !
Valerie.

Hi Paul,

Hi Paul,
I can see why was somewhat chilly over there...
You managed great the icy ground to get that warms tones reflected on that piece of ice.
I like also the slight inclination and the elements into the composition.
Congratulations and thanks for share.
My best regards,
JM

So you do frozen too? Ha! I have always wondered how you would handle a shot taken at this time of year...and of course you did so well...Ice? No problem for you...You do what my oldest son taught me after returning from the first crazy part of our lives...his Desert Storm in 91...he told us..he could handle the wilderness..."Identify, adapt and over come!"
Bob

Lovely, lovely again! What a superb composition this is, with the frozen sticks in the water and the sun's reflection leading the eye into the scene. There are interesting elements throughout the composition and the colors are so beautiful. Sharpness and exposure are perfect. You may have "quickly fired off a few shots", but it looks very well planned to me. You certainly have a well trained eye, know your equipment, and have mastered your technique.

Hallo Paul,

You have photographed a very nice landscape showing excelent colors. The sharpness of the inage is very good so that good details can be observed. I like the contrast between the pattern of the ice and that of the clouds. Light reflected on the ice looks great too.

Thank you for sharing,
Cristian

Hi Paul.
Superb choice of scene for shooting. And I am impressed with wonderful dark key of picture execution. Colour palette is fantastically rich and pleasant. Frozen pond, curves of its banks, attractive vegetation and amazing cloudy sky and sunbeams are cannot be better reproduced. Quality of the image is high end. Bravo. Very impressive, simply art poetic work.
Alexei.

Hi Paul,
I love the colors and the texture of the ice. You certainly managed to capture a ominous mood.
I am however struggling with one aspect of the photo. Normally a reflection on a mirroring surface is in a vertical line of its original. If I take a rough look at the reflection of the sun, it tells me that the photo is tilted to the right. That tree might make it look even worse and the distortion of the lens might be part of it as well. But it does feel as if your photo need a few degree tilt to the left.
TFS,
Niek

Hello Paul
even if the winter is cold the nature always succeeds to amaze to us. Beautiful composition for details and colors.
Sunset tonalities are very soft and it's very interesting the way in which the light reflex on the froozen water creating a beautiful game of lights and shadows.
