Northern Gannet

Morus bassanus (=Sula bassana) is a large seabird of the gannet family, Sulidae.
Their breeding range is the North Atlantic. They normally nest in large colonies, on cliffs overlooking the ocean or on small rocky islands. The largest colony of this bird, with over 60,000 birds, is found on Bonaventure Island, Quebec, but 68% of the world population breeds around the coasts of Great Britain, with the largest colonies on the Bass Rock (whence the species' Latin name) and Boreray, St Kilda.
In the United Kingdom, gannets are a protected species. However, a legal exception is made for the inhabitants of the town of Ness (also known as Port Nis) of the Isle of Lewis who are allowed to kill up to 2,000 gannets (locally known as guga) annually to serve as a traditional local delicacy - the taste is described as fishy.[1][2]
Many of these gannets are taken from Sula Sgeir which is itself named after them.

Range Description: This species has a large range, with an estimated global breeding Extent of Occurrence of 50,000-100,000 km². It has a large global population estimated to be 530,000 individuals (del Hoyo et al. 1992). For these reasons, the species is evaluated as Least Concern. Countries:

Hallo Ferran,

You have made a very nice in flight photo the bird is well shown and the image has a good composition. The ascending line of bird's movment looks well in the image. The image of the bird is very good showing very nice details of body and plumage. What an objective did you use as in the info about camera it is an 100 mm macro and in your note it is focal of 135 mm?

Thank you for sharing,
Cristian

Hi Ferran,

Wow! This Gannet is magnificent. The face is unbelievable with the wonderful eye, beak, and markings. The positions of the wing are fantastic. Excellent colors, sharp sharp details, and a beautiful composition. I'm beginning to think you must be part bird and fly up there with them to get these extraordinary shots.

Hello Ferran,
This is a really an amazing capture specially with a little focal.
I do this for garden bird, not in flight.
Your Morus bassanus has fine details and good exposition.
Very well done

Salutacions: Josep Ignasi.
