This i believe to be the male Robin which is said to be not so round and plump . It looks much taller in the picture because it was defending it area from another male . I like the side view of this one. Once again this is from my archives which is running low.

Robin ( Erithacus rubecula ) Length 14cm.
The Robin is one of the most familiar and popular garden Birds of all. The Robin is an aggressive species with the males sometimes fighting to the death to defend their territory.
The male and female are almost identical with brown crown, wings, upperparts and tail, a grey band along the sides of the breast, white belly and the famous red breast which is actually a deep orange colour. Juvenile Birds can cause confusion as they lack red in their plumage, being a rather dull spotty brown in colour.
Robins sing all year round, defending summer and winter territories with their fluty melodic song.
The Robin can be found in almost every garden as it is one of the tamest Birds, happily feeding alongside humans as they work. They will often take live food such as Earthworms or Mealworms from the hand.
Breeds from March to August building a cup shaped nest from grass and leaves lined with hair. Lays 4-6 pale blue-white eggs lightly spotted with red and incubates for 13-15 days. The young fledge after 12-14 days. They often have two broods

Hi Nick,

You have had a fine, strong light and you have used it well showing such fine, saturated colors. There is such a fine match between the colors of the plumage and the background. I like the very good sharpness of the image showing fine details of the bird.

Thank you for sharing,
Cristian

Kello Nicholas,
A great capture of this robun, excellent sharp and fine details and perfect BG.
Thankyou for posting. Greetins Ferran.

Such a beautiful lateral aspect of a male Robin defending its territory Nicholas, the amount of plumage and colouration details of this sharply depicted image is huge, while the BG is pleasantly blurry. I tried to lift off some of the general brownish cast in my WS to enhance the colour scheme of the take, hope you like the result my friend.

Very bright. Almost blindly bright! It looks like your typical favorite but with an added zing to it...I see it was taken in the start of winter....so there were a few good days to travel at least!

Hello, i'm glad to be back in the nicest avian collection of TN! Those little birds are literally flying over TN and creating pleasure to look at and a lot to learn from you, Nicolas. Your pictures are always so very well done, with a perfect background, beautiful light and always a nice place where the bird is standing. Many thanks for your passion, it is contaminating me even though I don't photograph much these days, too cold for me!

Francine

Once again a perfect shot with excellent depth of field and clarity. I love your style. So have you thought about putting together that book yet? I think you should! I'd buy a copy.

Perfect composition of this lovely robin, Nick. I like the ways he's set of from his surroundings both physically and in this image. Amazing details on his feathers. I'm a bit shocked at the brown bg (I would have expected greener in jolly old England).
Mike

Hi Nicholas,

Hello Nick,
A different shot of a Robin showing an aggresive stance, as you say, to defends its territory. I like the POV that shows more of the back than the breast and the lighting is superb. As usual, the sharpness, BG and composition are top class.
Nice one, and TFS!
Have a good weekend,
Ivan

Hello Nicholas !
Wow, what a gorgeous picture ! You managed to capture excellent details on the face and feathers, but what I like most are the wonderful warm, sunny colors. The pose of the Robin is great too, as well as the composition and the blurred BG. Really a pleasure for the eye. Very well done !
Valérie.
