A pair of Bewick's Swans feedind at a field outside of RSPB Minsmere nature reserve. The birds were part of a flock of 30-40 Bewick's Swans. This is the smallest European Swan species and quite rare.

From Birdguides:

Bewick's Swan (Cygnus columbianus bewickii)

In: Tundra Swan Ca: Cigne petit Da: Pibesvane De: Zwergschwan Es: Cisne chico Fi: pikkujoutsen Fr: Cygne de Bewick It: Cigno minore Nl: Kleine Zwaan No: Dvergsvane Pt: Cisne-pequeno Sv: Mindre sångsvan US: Tundra Swan Ru: Малый лебедь

It is the smallest and shortest-necked of the European swans and, like the Whooper, has obvious yellow in the beak. In Bewick's Swan, however, this is just a short yellow blob at the base, rather than an extended yellow wedge. In juveniles the bill starts off mainly pink but there is still a paler blob of the same characteristic shape.

Winters on lakes, estuaries, marshes and flooded fields.

Birds migrate from their Arctic breeding grounds between October-November, to winter in coastal lowlands of northern Europe. They return between March-April. On migration they use important staging areas in Estonia and near lake Onega and the White Sea.

Hi Pekka,

A lovely pair of swans - they seem to be enjoying themselves. I had to smile seeing them in that narrow strip of water surrounded by all the green grass. Excellent whites and nice colors and details of their faces.

Hej Pekka,
A fine capture of a couple of Bewick's Swans contrasting well against the grass with fine sharpness and colours.
In Sweden we are trying to change the name from Mindre Sångswan to Tundrasångswan: this will take time.

Hi pekka, wonderful shot of this pair of swan in their peacefull environment with a great clarity, nice dof and POV.
TFS and Cheers,,
