Hi all!

I would like to dedicate this picture to our friend Bob Shannon to thank him for his contribution here on TN and for his encouraging words on my pictures.

Yesterday and today winter came back in our country as in many other places, too. I made two ski hiking tours with my son and we had quite harsh conditions: snowfall, wind and sometimes fog. But the effort we had to provide was well recompensed: the 50-70cm of fresh powder snow made us shout out loud of joy during the downhill.

The only disadvantage of this situation is that my camera stayed at home waiting in the dry for better days. So I decided to present you this picture that I took a couple of days ago in the bed of the River Ärgera during one of my favourite "ice expeditions". It was not easy to move in the narrow river bed and I had to well observe the steep slopes covered with a thick layer of snow in order to estimate the danger of avalanches. It was also hard to progress in the icy and snowy conditions. But, again, the effort was worth it... from my point of view, of course. I could take a series of pictures that make me dream.

And isn't it very important to keep dreaming in our rough world and society? For me it is, and nobody else than mother nature can take me so easily away into the fabulous world of dreams.

Now Bob, I hope and wish that you and your wife also will have a fine dream when looking at this picture.

Kind regards

Markus

Taken in RAW, basic level corrections in Camera RAW before the import to PS, then level corrections, pronounced attenuation of the bright tones, little saturation and sharpness.

Merci!

Francine

Hi Marcus

This is very impressive. Use of gold color instead of the expected gray/blue was really a good idea! Gary

Hi Markus.
Touching dedication, very interesting note and amazing as usual art picture from you. It is clear that ice pattern is wonderful and you have reproduced it brilliantly. Bur I especially like two plans of the subject: first is ice and second one is under the ice. Illumination of the second plan with its lights and shadows is so impressive as a main object. Well done and best wishes.
Alexei.

Crystallized ice pictures somehow sooth my feelings Markus, your captures also look like abstract paintings. Thanks for this one also my friend, I just altered the colours slightly in my WS to reach cooler tones, hope you don't mind...

Hallo Markus,

Dieter

Hi Markus,
Outstanding image and you have yet again created an artistic masterpiece. Superb lighting effects and the details on the ice are just magnificent. It takes keen eyes to spot these and immanse skill to captured them and you fortunately have both qualities. We, at TN, are so privileged to have you among us and I, in particular, am enjoying these art forms to the fullest.
TFS.

* You should try to hold an exhibition of these pictures in your place, will be appreciated by everyone.

Hello Markus,

Hello Markus,
When I first saw this I thought of the kind of frosted glass that is sometimes used in bathroom windows but then those mass-produced sheets of glass have a repeated regularity in the pattern.
This ice pattern is not at all regular, infact the ice patterns are very irregular sharp crystalline shapes and the warm yellowish colours coming from the river bed through the ice are, as you say, like gold. The effect is exquisite!
It reminds me that ice crystals are never regular or repeated, each one is unique, as are snow crystals. The wonders of nature!
Thanks and best regards,
Ivan

I truly enjoy your "ice" work Markus, another fine image in the series.
Nature's "stained" glass window into the land of dreams, and only the most discerning minds need apply ;-)
Well done!

Lieber Markus,

Hello Markus,

I enjoyed reading your notes as well as looking at your photograph. If we had snow, as we have had this year, then I feel I might become interested in the possibility of ski-ing!
The pattern of the crystals and the varied colour tones are remarkable.
This is a very rare subject but an interesting one.

I found myself looking for comparisons: it looks like straw, it looks like coarse fabric, it is an abstract painting. This is the beauty of photography, and all art forms, in that it can be interpreted in many different ways.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Markus,
Beautiful abstract painting.
Could be antique glass as well.
Well done

Hi markus.

Nice capture, beautiful warm golden tones. Sounds like it was quite hazardous to get this shot with the risk of avalanche and all. But well worth the effort.
I love the fine patterns and details.

Markus,

Congratulations on the fresh snow and a good day with you son. Those are truly Golden Moments.

This abstract shot has a lot to look at. I do like you gold rendition. Your ice pictures are very soothing to look at if I don't think about how you got them.

Always be safe down their on the ice so we can enjoy your work in the future.

Take care and thanks again - Bob

Hello Markus,
This is a beautiful pattern made up of ice crystals in interesting shapes. I would have guessed the colour was partly due to acidity of the water as is common here in the forests. It looks very natural, beautiful and golden to me.
Many thanks and regards, Ulla

Bonjour Markus,

Hi Markus,
for me your eyes are nuetrally natural with nature. What you see is what in the real world.
So I really appreciate you comment and tips for my improvement.
Youre also technically very good in controlling the quality of what you shoot.
Thanks for this difficult technology transfer. Im learning a lot from you - technicality, and nature.

Foozi

Hi Markus,

Hello Markus !
Another one from you which is incredibly beautiful ! I love the shapeof this ice formation, just as much as I love the golden color, and the light playing on it. Nature is the greatest of all artists, and you managed to reproduce it so beautifully for us - well worth the effort, in my opinion too. Very well done !
Valérie.

You are indeed a thoughtful person. And you know how I love to mix in a natural artwork, but can only do in my own style. Your style is superior even to my own minds thoughts...I see many others mentioning you now..and also a few times some are taking lessons in their own private ways..as they also have this special knowledge of patterns in organic energy...something only a special person can se and understand! Thanks ever so much Markus. I am humbled.
Bob
