Burnet Companion Euclidia glyphica
Swedish name: Gulbrokigt slċtterfly, meaning yellow-patterned meadow Noctuid moth.

This is a fairly common and widespread day-flying Noctuid moth in Europe. Its English name refers to the possibility of seeing it flying together with another group of day-flying moths, the Burnets (Zygaenidae).

The larval host plants are various species of leguminous plants, like clovers.

This is a wary species and I had to chase it for some time. Just as I got my camera ready, even at a distance of 2 meters, it would fly off again.

But finally I managed this capture taken with a high shutter speed at the sacrifice of the DOF. The camera was hand held at a distance of about 1.8 meters (6 ft). After moderate cropping and size reduction the image was selectively sharpened

Good morning Ivan,
thank you for posting this nice picture of the day-flying Noctuide.
Sharpness and light are amazing to present the differentiated wing pattern of the moth.
By selection of the right point of view you avoided any disturbing intererence with the grass leafs.
Best wishes, Peter

Very well explained on how you did this and the distance of 6 feet...US. This shows the great quality of the lens, and what the lens and eye didn't do, you finished off n PP. Overall a very good lesson..

Hello Ivan,

The sharpness you have shown the moth with is impressive. Wings texture is very well shown. Moreover most of the insect is in focus. You have got very good colors in your photo. The wings have such saturated and shiny colors. It is also a fine match between the colors of the insect and the background.

Thank you for sharing,
Cristian

Hi Ivan,

I have learned to appreciate the beauty of moths! This is a lovely one with excellent colors and details. Some, like this, have patterns that are so much more intricate than those of butterflies. This looks marvelous against the natural background. I thank you for converting meters to feet:-)

Hi Ivan. I keep seeing Butterflies and other things i have never seen before so thanks for posting . To me this iswhat TN is all about. Your top view lets us see all of the wing markings which you have taken with fine detail and natural looking colours. It sounds as if you had to work hard to get this one. well done TFS.

Geçen yıldan bir kare postalamışsın. Detaylar herzamanki gibi harika ve kusursuz. Renkler ve ksekinlik süper görünüyor. Tebrikler.

Hello Ivan,

I have had trouble accessing TN this morning.
The site keeps going down!

This is a lovely sharp capture of the butterfly showing fine textural details.
Your dof keeps it nicely isolated from the b/g.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)
Many thanks for your warm feedback on 'A colour co-ordinated duck'.

Merhaba Ivan,güzel bir kadraj ve güzel bir kompozisyon.Keskinlik çok iyi, detaylar çok güzel, ellerine sağlık,dostlukla:)

Hello Ivan,

An interesting little moth, and a nice image of it. Yes, it could use a touch more depth of field, but a nice image anyway.I've found that using a monopod helps with that sort of subject, let's you move around better than a tripod and gives some stability so that you can use a slightly slower shutter speed in order to stop down a bit more.

Hi Ivan,
great sharpness and the hairs around the wings are lovely. The little pearls on the body give a special effect in enhancing its beauty.
Pleasant composition, and honestly i must say that you have a very steady and stout hand to have it shot without any indication of camera movement.

Foozi

Hi Ivan,
pretty well composed, pleasantly lighted, well detailed capture of that wary "companion". I know it quite well from dry heath locations around Vienna, and so I also know how hard it is to approach. The image looks fresh and lively.
With thanks, and best regards,
Peter

P.S.: Thank you for your today's reply to my adder to the thread Ulla started in the forum a few days ago. I am sharing your point of view, I also prefer to stay with TN. My own intentions of sharing observations with a widely diversified international audience of people concerned about nature are pretty much the same as yours here.

Hello Ivan !
I see I didn't comment on this one, so here I am - it's a beautiful moth with discreet brown colors, must have been hard to see it (and also hard to captue, it seems :-) Nice details, natural colors, beautiful composition and POV. Very well done !
Valérie.
