[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note [Dutch]
Quite a spectacular species, this colourful moth overwinters as an adult, and as a result, can be one of the last species to be seen in one year, and one of the first in the next. It is also sometimes found hibernating inside barns and outbuildings.

The larvae feed on willow (Salix) and poplar (Populus).

flashpoint, rousettus, ramthakur, pgmoni, anel has marked this note useful

Hi Hans , a good macro of this moth , great field depth keeping the entire moth in sharp focus , the insect is nicely highlighted against a darker background. thanks for sharing

Hans, I like you image of this interesting Moth. You have captured it well using flash and turning the BG dark in the process. The insect perched on a branch stands out very sharply against this dark BG.
The subtle colours and designs on the wings have been recorded well. I especially like those golden abstractions on either side of the thorax.
It is pleasure to have my first look at your pictures.
Thanks and regards.

A very fine picture of the Herald. Good play of shadows and light and very natural, warm, colours. The composition is attractive, too. One of the best pic I have seen of this moth.
