[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Hello,

Another fungi image and another dedication from me today, this time the specie is Inonotus hispidus, a dangerous plant pathogen, the monster of apple farms. It's common, in most of the cases infecting fruit trees, first of all apple (Malus) species, but also ash (Fraxinus sp.) and locust (Robinia sp.). I dedicate this photo to the following Polish photographers:

- Slawek (chudy), who likes tinders (bracket fungi) very much - maybe this specie's still missing from Your collection.
- Grzegorz (red45), who also like fungi; one of my best Friends from TN, who's such a quality as photographer which I will never have.
- Adrian (aes_thor), who's very good in macro photography and likes the small fungi very much - the smaller the better :)
- and last but not least Pawel (cloud), who we also share the interest about fungi.

Why do I dedicate the pic to them? Because it was photographed in the ruin village of Derenk, which was established in 1717 by Polish (góral) people, and was the only Polish village within the current borders of Hungary. It was ruined in 1943, because the governor that time, Miklós Horthy, created a preserve in the territory, and he became bored of the village people who often shot "his" bears and other animals. A shame of our history...

Now You don't find Derenk on an average map. If You're curious where it exactly was, check out the Hungarian village Szögliget and the Slovakian Jablonca - Derenk was just on halfway from them, just on the borderline of the countries. Now Derenk became a monument village within the territory of the Aggtelek National Park, with a free museum in the only remaining building, the village school. The site of the monument village is still under construction, but Polish people can get informations in their native tongue here (now a bit, later more).

Photo: the fruitbody was growing on a very old apple tree (a remain of the village...), on at least 4 meters, so another POV was impossible. You can get a closer look of the fungus by clicking workshop1, while workshop2 shows the village area now.

Not my best ever shot technically, due to the slight overexposure, which I tried to improve with gamma correction, but due to the special place this is what I wanted to dedicate to the Polish photographers of the site.

Very good timing Laszlo, because 23rd of March is Day of Hungarian-Polish Friendship in your country.

Very interesting story in your note. I didn't know any Polish villages in Hungary. Picture is very nice, too. Good mix of blue sky, old tree and...surprise! fungus :-)

I must say that yesterday I was going to send post with fungus and dedication to you, but Slawek was faster :-)

beautiful composition of light surrounding the fungi. Glowing and shining around with the tree trunk seen in beautiful texture and colours.

Nicely seen in isolation.

Both Poland and Hungary have such history, it is incredible to us in America! I really liked reading your notes, it is very instructive and the picture takes its sense more by reading it! Let's celebrate your companionship and let me appreciate your picture ;-) It was a tricky situation where the shadow is very dark and the bright light is lighting the fungi. Yet, you managed very well the problem and not only do we admire the lit fungi but also the beautiful moss on the beautiful trunk of the tree. Thank you!
