The only thing I like to shoot more than bids are the spotted cats! Cheetah - Acinonyx jubatus - I will post species info with the next cheetah post. 04h00 this morning, when the alarm went off, the wind was blowing a cold front. This canned my planned outing to Pilanesberg Nature Reserve. However, when we did get up, my wife suggested the Lion & Rhino Park in Kromdraai, about 50 km from us. Since my dad turns 89 next week, we took him & my mom to see some wildlife. Needless to say, I got stuck in the cheetah camp. They have 5 cheetahs, beautiful specimens each of them. Saturdays are feeding time, and I ended up shooting nearly 200 images. Unfortunately, the sun was in my face for most of the time, hence I had to use flash to fill in, & many times the flash did not fire. However, there are a couple of very pleasing posts in the batch, this one being one of my favourites. I love mug shots; I love feline & bird eyes, & this cat delivered in pose with those lovely hazel brown eyes. Nikon D70 & Sigma 120-300 f2.8 & 2X converter @ 500 mm; ISO 200, -0,7 EV; iTTL Balanced fill flash off camera; Bean bag on window; Levels lighter, Added space above ears & to left; reduced to size and USM, faded to soft light to suit. Enjoy.

Fantastisch Callie,
Great that eyes, that colours that dof, great note.
Ja Callie wat moet ik nog meer zeggen. Ik steek de lof trompet op.

Wonderful, Callie. A real beauty, and I do enjoy his appearingly focused look with the brown eyes. The play of light accentuates some fine details on the coat and the "beard". Great shot.

Great work on the cheetah. The cheetas in this camp is the reason why I've gone out to buy a 2X converter, the buggers know where the furthest point from the road is. I love the eyes. Have you ever tried the De Wild Cheetah Research center her by me? The cheetah's are really something to see. Happy birthday to your Dad

Yet another fine portrate shot with lots of detail even a twinkle in the eye for you. good full notes as usual.

Oy, do you drag your innocent wife and parents (one of them birthday celebrating) off on an outing and then "get stuck"? Shame on you ;-))
Nice capture and good handling of the light conditions.

This look i his eyes is freezing the blood. I like the direction of light and the wa it plays in his fur. wonderful shot, Callie.

Thsi is a beauty Callie. Those brown eyes are lovely, very conentrated. I find myself staring at them, admiring them. The soft earthy colours helsp to bring them out too.

face a face, faut pas perdre le sang froid, belle capture tres vivante, la photo parle pour nous, le rendu des couleurs et du détail est parfais ....bravo....amicalement BI

Very nice and expressive picture. Excellent composition and good light, I like it.

Le regard de cet animal est d'une grande concentration. Pas étonnant qu'il sont un si bon chasseur. Magnifique couleurs, magnifique animal, netteté: au poil. Bravo Callie.

Fantasties Callie. You can see the Cheetha is focused on what is coming! Great detail, and the flash warmed the face nicely. Great note. Just a matter of intrest Callie is there a Observatory near the Lion & Rhino Park in Kromdraai?

Hi Callie

Another stunning capture.

Regards

Roy

This is fine image. Beautiful counterlight and razoredged.
The well choosen quantity of flashlight make details of the fur clear and cause a fine contrast with the edge. The excellent DOF makes this cheetah detached from the background.
The cheetah is very concentrated and also well positioned in this image.
