Arataki Ė Pathway to Learning

Welcome - Haere Mai

The Arataki Visitor Centre in Auckland's beautiful Waitakere Ranges
is an informative and fun place to visit. Spectacular views can also be had from the decks surrounding the Centre. The decks provides an expansive 360 degree view of the Waitakere Ranges, Rangitoto - Aucklandís newest volcano, the South Pacific Ocean, the Tasman Sea and both the Manukau and Waitemata harbours, and also some of Aucklandís suburbs and even the North Shore.

At the Arataki Visitor Centre you can learn about the environment , NZís heritage, and find out what there is to see and do in the Waitakere Ranges. You can get the latest information on track conditions, weather and tides. Arataki provides all the information you need to go walking in the Waitakere Ranges.

Arataki Visitor Centre has many changing exhibits about the flora, fauna and history of the Ranges, as well as its role as a major water catchment area for Auckland city. It is also a great place to plan your trip to the area, with helpful staff and plenty of tourist information including maps of walking trails.

This photo taken from Arataki shows over to Auckland city with North Shore (where I live) in the far distance on the left. And you can see Rangitoto in the distance, right behind Aucklandís Sky Tower.

Hello Janice,

The sky looks great and a little surreal. How did you do that? Did you use the backlight option in ps or is it 100% real? I always love pictures with the skytower in the frame and this one is no exception. Very cool! I wish I would have taken a picture from this point when I was in Aucland! Well done & TFS!

Wooooo, Janice.... what a spectacular view, (ummm... isn't that the title? ;P) excellent shot, good composition, DOF and colours! Excellent work! TFS my dear,

Very nice capture Janice, this looks like a painting effect tool was used here. The different levels in the scene give it depth. Well done.

Hi Janice,
A beautiful Landscape. Someday I will visit NZ. Posts like this from NZ members are making me rethink how soon that will be.
Very nice shot!

Wow, Janice! What a view!!! Jungle, city, mountains, sky... NZ is like all world compressed to one [two...ok, more than two counting little ones ;-)] island. Of course for first I noticed Sky Tower ;-) Excellent post!
