These are a few of the colourful species of fungi I collected in a couple of hours today (well, yesterday now) on the plateau above the Arnold River.
The bright blue ones are the most easily recognisable.
I have posted Entoloma hochstetteri (the Blue Pink-gill or Sky Blue mushroom) several times before.
The pinkish tinted one is Humidicutis rosella, the yellows and the deep red one are Hygrocybes.
The tattered remains of the large purple fungus are yet to be identified.
If I can't find out what it is I will be sending some dried spore samples up to Clive Shirley (The Hidden Forest)for him to examine microscopically.

There don't seem to be quite as many fungi around this year as there were last year at this time, but with the recent heavy rain it is hardly surprising.
Many places are not damp enough for fungi .... sometimes the West Coast can be too damp.
The West Coast has by far the highest rainfall in New Zealand.
In 1997-98 the annual rainfall recorded at Cropp River was 18.4 Metres (60 Feet)!

When these fungi dry out,I will take them up the road to a reserve near here and spread the spores in locations I think they would be likely to grow.
Later on I'll post individual shots of some of them growing in their natural environment.

Hope you like the photo.
Thanks for viewing and for any comments.

Your photo was next to mine this morning so I couldn't help but notice the gorgeous colors of the fungi you posted. I didn't realize they came in colors other than brown and white. Thanks for sharing and broadening my horizon.

I workshopped your photo to add some light and color to the scene. Hope you like it.

Ciao Steve, amazing colors for those fungi, fascinating composition with splendid sharpness, very well done, ciao Silvio

I love the different forms and colors of these fungi and applaude you for spreading the spores in a likely natural habitat. I would be very interested in seeing them growing in their natural habitat so please do post... :)

I also took the liberty of doing a workshop of your photo... hope you like the changes. see above under link "workshop".

He Steve,
A work full of amazing colors, almost impossible to believe that diversity of fungi. A picture composed and very well equipped with good level of detail. Congratulations!

Hello Steve,

Great capture of this colourful species mushrooms.
Light,sharpness and composition are fantastic.
Excellent notes.

Enter Steve from stage left. Let us practice the BLOCKING. It is a well staged shot Steve. An amazing array of rainbow. You and your fungi. You have a passion for these things. It appears as though you spend much of your time on the ground. I spend most of my time in a chair. HA.

Very nice colourful mosaic of mushroom species Steve!
There are blue, red, yellow and white, really interesting componation, especially on the green background.

You guys really do have the most amazing mycology over there! I never tire of seeing those Blue Pink-gills. Very nicely presented on the furry moss and well laid too.
Great all round post mate, well done.

Hi Steve,

Wonderful bunch. It's so good to see Your shots, because, as I mentioned in another critique, there's drought here - drought is the strongest enemy of fungi, because 90% (sometimes more) of the friutbody is water! Even tinders (bracket fungi, which seems quite dry) contain 60%.

I prefer Your original shot with natural colors, even the light conditions weren't the most perfect - one of the workshops seems oversaturated a bit, while the other became too bright, killing the colors of the fungi. So, again a congratulations from my side, MF.

Tfs, cheers, László

Hello Steve !
So it is fungi time in your part of the world ? :-) You have harvested a very interesting collection of mushrooms, I like their colors, specially the blue ones, because they are so beautiful and they don't exist here in France. Blue, white, red, yellow, and the green of the most - a true pleasure for the eye. Very well done !

Hi Steve,
Yo did so beautiful and colourful scene from these beutifully coloured mushrooms. Details and composition are great MF!
TFS and cheers,
