[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The hummingbirds have been back in Ohio from their wintering grounds for a few weeks now, so I thought I would try and get a few shots.

This is actually a male Ruby-throated Hummingbird, but you wouldn't know it from this view. The dark blackish throat turns a brilliant ruby red when the sun hits it at just the right angle.

My intent here is to show some of the fine detail found in it's facial features that you would otherwise miss if viewed full bodied.

Ron,

Amazing profile of this hummingbird. It looks like it is a hybrid with a fish. Are those scales?

And I love the blur of flapping wings at the bottom of the photo...

Michael

Hallo Ron
This is a great portrait with stunning colours and close and clear detail, especially of the rounded feathers in the neckline. It is captured with accuracy and care. A lovely head shot presented in a most pleasing manner. The detail of the long beak and the glint in the eye is portrayed beautifully. Thanks for sharing.
Best regards.
Anna

Hi Ron,

So that's where all the hummingbirds are! I have seen one in the last week. A beautiful portrait of this Ruby-throated with fine details of his face, eye, beak and feathers. The iridescent colors are wonderful. A perfect background and composition.

What a fine close and shot it is Ron. The green is very pleasing. It is actually very calming. It seems you pick the right time to capture the subject. Perhaps it was also calmed by the color. But mostly I impressed with that being so close in. Perhaps it is just the lens. Perhaps it is the photographer. I choose the later.
Bob

Beautiful close-up (that can't be easy to do) and excellent bokeh!

Hi Ron,
