hello friends, the Rock Dove in low flight,
photo shot in RAW, ISO 400, with Flash

from Canadian Biodiversity website :

http://canadianbiodiversity.mcgill.ca/english/species/birds/birdpages/col_liv.htm

« Like many species that are specifically adapted
to human-dominated landscapes, the rock dove,
commonly known as the pigeon, was introduced
into North America from Europe in 1606.
Although the earliest pigeons were domestic,
it wasn't long before the species became naturalized
and were breeding on their own. Today, pigeons inhabit
nearly any rural or urban landscape. In rural areas,
the rock dove feeds on waste seeds and grains,
although urban pigeons often rely on human handouts
and junk food, including bread, popcorn, donuts and
french fries. Nests are built on roofs, ledges, balconies,
as well as under bridges, highways, and overpasses.
Post-hatch pigeons consume the parents' milk,
which is actually a substance produced by the
parents' crop. After a week, the milk is replaced
by partially-digested seeds which are
regurgitated from the parents. »

merci

Hello Asbed,
I have always had a great love for pigeons. I used to raise Rollers years ago, but gave it up because I lost too many to hawks.
Your image caught my attention immediately, it's a fine shot of this beautiful bird in full flight!!! Well done!!
Ron

Good clear shot in an extraoridinary position. Well done Asbed. TFS Trevor

Hello Asbed,
Excellent in-flight shot. Fast enough to freeze the feathers and tack sharp - well done.
Regards,
Greg

Hallo Asbed
This is such a beautiful view. The details of the wingspan of the dove is great to look at, and it displays well against the greenish background created by the water and the trees. I just love the "fan" that the feathers of the tailpiece creates. The black lining at the bottom of the feathers are also very eye-catching. The bright purple and jade in the pigeon's neckline is very noteable and displays nice and clear. A very peaceful image to look at. Best regards and thanks for sharing.

Hello Asbed,
Very well captured in-flight low speed maneuver by the Rock pigeon. It shows aerodynamic details of the "flaps down" while aircraft approaching runway equivalent; "tail feathers open & down" at an angle to reduce the speed & keep the nose up when centre of gravity is close to chest before touch down. Thanks for sharing this unique in-flight display of this bird.
Best wishes-Subhash

I wonder what would happen if you ever did get that DSLR you speak of....the one you use here makes it easier to pan with the bird. The DSLR depending on lens can be pretty heavy and make panning a bit more difficult...but maybe not..perhaps it is only my neck which carries marks to this day from carrying 2-3 DSLRs around to various baseball and basketball games...but that was time past....

I certainly have seen this bird before...but not caught in flight. As a matter of fact I have some 120 film images from back in Cleveland of them, but all in motion. I think back at the time and suppose I was using 100 ASA and more than likely 1/250th which would have not caught the movement as you do so well.

Hi Again,

I almost missed this wonderful Rock Dove. Just marvelous with the beautiful positions of the wings and tail feathers. Colors, details, setting and composition are all excellent.

Bonjour Asbed,

La prise de vue permet de distinguer les détails et les couleurs du pigeon en vol. Le flou de l,arrière-plan met en valeur la netteté de l'oiseau. La bonne lumisoité a un bel effet suur les couleurs de l'image. Bonne journée.
