ephalotes clypeatus (ant glider, gold)

Size smaller than his black cousin (cephalotes atratus), the golden species is less common, can be found occasionally in shrubs with color similar to yours (as in the case of the individual pictured). Are smaller than the atratus, not reaching more than 0.8cm. Particularly noteworthy is its fascinating transparency, and its frame that seem somewhat gelatinous.

The ants in particular, was photographed today (I took the day off and I was not at the office!) About 5 kilometers from my house, path to the city park "El Penon" on the hill "The Cup" during a walk early.

Hi Jesus.

A magnificent macro of this fascinating looking insect. I don't recall ever seeing even a picture of this one. The body looks like it is composed of gelatin. Marvelous colors, razorsharp details, excellent textures. All that and a perfect background and composition.

This photo is incredible!
Not only is the ant very strange and interesting, but the quality of your shot is also very good.
DOF is a bit limited, but thats to be expected with this level of magnification.

Hallo Jesus
What a beautiful insect you share with us this time. The colour is just magic, not forgetting to mention the detail of the shiny body and the paws. It looks like it is wearing socks. This is a real special and colourful image. This is one of the reasons why I like it so much to be part of Trek Nature because you think you've seen it all and then another beauty (like yours) pops up on the gallery and you stand amazed from the start. Thanks for sharing this delighful view.
Kind regards.
Anna

Bonjour Jesus,
Very interesting posting! And what a fascinating and strange looking creature this ant is. Very well taken, the ant seems to be almost translucid, amazing. Excellent job in regards of the size too.
Thanks for sharing
