Hé Annick,
Dat is lang geleden! Dacht al dat je voorgoed TN verlaten had. Gelukkig niet, want als ik deze foto zie bijvoorbeeld, heb ik dit soort kwaliteit toch wel gemist. Schitterend in alle opzichten, kleur, scherpte, achtergrond, standpunt, compositie, enz. Perfect!
Groet,
Peter

Hi Annick.
Your trip is over and we can watch your nice shots again. This one is composed amazingly and pictured scene is touching. The mood of beautiful animal is reflected perfectly as well as all other details including impressive stone as a stage. Well done and TFS.
Alexei.
Wow, that is sharp, Annick!
A beautiful presentation of this unusual animal in perfect lighting.
I am always excited to make the acquaintance of a new species.
Thanks for the informative note.
TFS. : )
Hi Annick,
I've never critiqued a photo of a rat before. The Dassie Rat seems to be a lot easier to live with than the varieties we see in North America, however. Your photo is very sharp and shows off the Dassie Rat very well. The light tan BG pushes the rat on its rock into the FG. The fur and markings on the rat are excellent.
A Google search I did produced a reference to the Dassie Rat in a book entitled, "Field Guide to Mammals of Southern Africa", by Chris Stuart. That publication states that the animal is "frequently observed basking in the early-morning sun, much like its namesake the dassie." That led me to track down the dassie. Its full name is the Rock Dassie, or Procavia capensis. The site, www.krugerpark.co.za, says that it is a "tail-less guinea-pig-like animal." It is also said to be as large as a rabbit.
Thanks for bringing this animal, and its namesake cousin, to my attention. It must have been a very interesting trip to Namibia!
Regards,
John

Looks like it's a rocky road in you're a rat in Namibia, life is tough..
Although this one seems to be in very good shape, hasn't missed many meals it seems ;)
Well done Annick.
