We found a number of these subalpine to alpine asters on Mt. Hood today. My sister, her youngest daughter, and I hiked from the Cloud Cap campground to the top of Cooper Spur, which is 8500 ft. elevation. The summit of Mt. Hood is 11,245 ft.

This aster can be subalpinme or alpine. They are found in the Olympic mountains, the Cascades, and Mt. Rainier. They bloom July-August and are 4-10" tall.

Great pic. I like the bluish flower and the grey soil background. Do you know this aster scientific name ? Ori
