I had a day out at a nature reserve in Dorset. It backs on to Poole Harbour . This was taken from a hide when the tide was going out so it was a long way off. Poole Harbour is the second largest natural harbour in the world. I was happy to have taken this Little Egret inflight I know its far from perfect but i am not into taking this type of picture.

Little Egret ( Egretta garzetta ) Length 55-65cm.

The Little Egret used to be a rarity in Britain but it is now a common year round resident on many estuaries and coastal waterways in South England. A few are also seen from time to time on coasts elsewhere in Britain and occasionally seen on inland wetlands.
The Bird is a pure white, Heron like Bird with a black dagger like bill and long neck. Their legs are long with yellow feet.
In the breeding season it acquires head plumes and trailing plumes on its back.
In flight the trailing legs and yellow feet are conspicuous and with the neck held in a hunched s shape.
It is an active feeder often chasing after fish in shallow water and stabbing with great accuracy.
At other times they may rest in a hunched up posture with the head and bill hidden and can be confused with a Mute Swan.
Does not breed in Britain yet.
Roosts in colonies often in good numbers at places such as Little Sea on Stuland Heath, Dorset and at Thorney Island on the Solent.

Beautiful moment captured by a great Artist.

Aunque no está a la altura de tus obras diarias, un bello documento y que alegra la vista ya que cambias de estilo ;-)

Hello Nick,
Beautiful photo of this Little Egret in flight. The 'encouragement' of the other egret is very nice to see. Good sharpness, DOF, timing and POV. Excellent natural colours.

Hi Nick, beautiful in-flight pic whit a great great sharpness. We know the experiments of Asbed and we know how aren't easy pics like that.....just my best compliments for this very professional work, have a nice week,LUCIANO

Hi Nick'
The quality is good not suburp but the distance are great I think.
Good details in the wings.
Fine colours.

Hi Nick,

A good effort considering the circumstances.

Still you managed to freeze the action in flight, got the colours right and shown some detail in the wings.

(They seem to be permanently resident in the Andover lakes so they might be breeding, but have not been over there this summer yet to see , have tried to get a good shot of one at the lakes on many occasions and been disappointed every time)

TFS regards Bill

Hello Nick,
I missed this one!
I didn't know Little Egrets bred in Dorset and this is a nice capture showing that this must be so. You achieved good sharpness on the flying egret and the other that is standing is clearly seen The composition and lighting are great too with a nice glimpse to the BG water.
Thanks and have a good week,
