Biplane
Twelve-spot Skimmer (male)

Taken at the Parc de l'Île Bizard at Montreal, Quebec.

· Libellule Gracieuse
· Libellula pulchella
· Twelve-spot Skimmer

This odonate of the family of Libellulidae measures from 45 to 58 mm and has a scale of 80 mm.
The head and the thorax are brown pale and the top of the abdomen is blue pale for the male, brown for the
female.
The wings are marked of three black spots between which there is, for the male, white spots.
One finds this dragonfly close to the lakes, ponds and marsh, especially if the banks are exposed.
The adults nourish small insects which they catch with the flight. The males are very territorial and aggressive.
After the coupling, the female flies over water and there deposits its eggs with the point of its abdomen or is posed on a plant and attaches on the stem close to water.
The larvae live in water and nourish watery invertebrates, small fish and tadpoles which they seize in the passing. To reach the adult stage, the larva leaves water and fixes itself at an object. Dried once, its envelope is split and the adult
emerges from it.
He will fly of at the end of May until September.

J'aime beaucoup la comparaison, c'est bien vu. Un angle inhabituel, mais qui met bien en valeur les particularités des ailes. Bravo, Luc !

Great shot Luc,
Well composed, good detail, colours and sharpness.
Nicely captured, Great POV and brilliant title.
Thanks for posting, have a good week.

very nice one Luc,
very good composition,I think that a fill in flash had worked very good here, now is the unther of the dragonfly a little in shadow, but even I like the shot because his perfect dof, very good job Luc,

Brilliant POV Luc, really shows the off-set wings perfectly. Good DOF and composition as well, but it is the POV that makes this shot a good one.

Hello Luc! Great title! Wonderful detail, great whites! Marvellous macro shot, with such clarity! Well done, again!

Belle compositon pour cette photo. J'aime beaucoup le point de vue. L'angle de la lumière fait bien ressortir les taches blanches des ailes. TFS

A biplane is just what I saw, before reading the title, I think it is obvious with this great prespective. Great use of light forcing the f:3.5 but still great DOF. Great Work.

Bon Matin Luc,

Tes photos sont aussi belles les unes que les autres. Bravo!! Comme j'adore les libellules, celle ci est ma préférée.
Merci de partager autant de beauté.

Amicalement Julie
