Dear Friends,
Nowadays rarely I have time and occasion to visit TN, but of course that doesn't mean I also stopped taking photos! Now I have some vacation... well, not quite. I sit at home and watch flat renovation. Not really exciting time. Just today I adopted my old ring flash to the Sigma 70 mm macro lens and did some experiments. And here it is a greenbottle fly that came through the open window to get some of my cat's food.

Greenbottle fly (Lucillia sp.)
Family: Calliphoridae

These flies are very common in Europe, found most often flying among animal corpses or excrements on which their larvae feed.

An interesting thing is that flies of this genus are also very important in medicine. They are used in the so called "maggot therapy" of people or animals. The purpose of this therapy is a selective cleaning out only the necrotic tissue within a wound, disinfection, and promotion of wound healing.

"Cat Food" is a title of a song from the album "In the wake of Poseidon" made in 1970 by one of my favourite bands, King Crimson.

I wish you a nice vacation, TN friends!

Hallo Michal
Extraordinary detail captured on this Greenbottle fly. Wonderful metallic colours, not only on the thorax but on the body as well. A great macro with super focus and clarity. I like the "close to the face" composition. Thanks for sharing this beautiful "pest" with its huge red eyes.
Best regards.

Czesc Michal!

Prawdziwy twardziel zrobi super makro nawet w czasie remontu :-) Wyszlo swietnie.
