Experiences with a compact camera for travel:

This 12 mm sized longhorn beetle has no english name (Coleoptera; Cerambycidae; Gaurotes virginea; Blaubock). I found it for the first time at 1'500 m a.s.l. on mount Cousimbert. It also seems to be a "First" on TN. Since Mt. Cousimbert is my favorite spot for bicycling you will have to endure more of my trials with a compact camera there.

The beetle occurs in mountainous forests, but not in UK nor in the Mediterranean region. Its larvae feed on pine or fir bark.

Hello Dietrich,
You make good use of your compact in capturing two specimens of what we call in Swedish Blåbock, the same as in German. The sharpness and DOF are excellent and leave a suitable OOF BG. Nice to see!
Thanks and best regards,
Ivan!

Hallo Dietrich
Beautiful and very eye-catching. Compact camera excellently. I for one won't swap my compact camera for anything at this day in time; I am just too fond of it. The details and colours on both the flower and the beetle is great and portrays beautifully. The metallic beetle is very fascinating and lovely to look at. You have captured the prominent features like the big black eyes and the texture on the shield well and with great clarity. The contrast between the lilac flower and the metallic blue insect is magic, and is brought out to the best with the light used to your advantage. It was a sheer pleasure stopping by such a delightful image. Thanks for sharing. Best regards.

greeting lou

Hello Dietrich,

Very impressive macro shot of the longhorn beetles! The details are very well shown. The dark metallic colors of the beetles give great contrast to the flower underneath. Above all, I like the natural metallic colors of the beetles, taken with great sharpness and from a well-chosen POV.
Very well seen!

warm greetings,
Paras Bhalla

Hi Dietrich

Lieber Dieter,

Peter
