[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
this was taken a week or so ago, at the very southern tip of the Isle Of Portland. The Pulpit Rock, which you can see in the background here, is a large Limestone promentary that sticks out into the cold English Channel and takes a good battering most of the year round.
This is a very well photographed spot, but i thought i'd share my latest take on it with you.

According to my profile page, this is also my 400th posting on TrekNature! All though i'm not as frequent here these days, i still enjoy seeing what you've all been doing and learning about the natural world...it's nice to know there is still a place where like minded people can meet.

Thanks for looking...

Congratultions on your 400th Paul!
Your shots of the Dorset coast have been great to view and this one is certainly no exception.
This is filled with drama! The lighting and colours of the cliffs and seaweed in contrast to the sea and sky are superb and the crashing of the wave below Pulpit Rock is well taken to look like an explosion.
A wonderful shot!
Thanks an I hope to see many more from you.
Best regards,

Hello Paul
Amazing landscape with wonderful vivid colors and great scene.

Hello Paul

Hi Paul. Many congrats on your 400th posting. i have to thank you for showing me this wonderful site. What a picture to post one of your best my i say. I like the way you hace captured the lines and texture of the rocks. Along with the rich colours. Your timing in the waves was spot on . Also the patch of green from the sea weed. I am going to put this into my favorites list. Very well done TFs.

Hey Paul,
Congratulations with already your 400th photo. I really need to catch up on the numbers.
I haven't seen a photo yet from this POV of the famous Pulpit Rock. I like the addition of the seaweed in the FG to add more color the overall brownish look. Your timing is ofcourse perfect and that sproud of water made the photo. It looks like you had to work with a pretty high contrasty scene.

Hello Paul,
Best image of the day.
Its amazing and its also unbelievable.
Excellent perspective.

Hey mate!

The famous and ever so beautiful Pulpit Rock...and what a terrific way to shoot it!
I remember you wanting to take me to this place, too, but we just didn't have the time for it...eh well, next time ;)
As Niek said, this is a more original angle and perspective for this scene. I, too like the algae in the FG and, for sure, the splash of the wave - they make this capture so unique and very attractive.
Also, the time of day is well chosen and gave you a terrific light and saturation for all the colors of the rocks here.
There is one aspect though that i would like to debate (notice - i didn't say critique) on: the need of a grad filter here. On my screen, the upper part of the frame looks a bit dark. I know you've used a polarizer, too and that darkened the sky as well, but it's a bit more than that. However, on the other side, the grad definitely helped you emphasize the FG by letting more light enter through there. Hmmm...tough choice...Maybe my dilemma could be solved by adjusting the levels only from the horizon upwards. What do you think?
Anyway, this is a stunning compo and shot and MANY congrats on reaching 400, as well.

Bravo and TFS

Hola amigo,
febulosa vista y fina composición,
bonitos colores y sobresaliente pov.

Goodness... what a rich image. There is so much LIGHT and so much rich COLOR. That combined with the wave action at the end of those lead lines makes this quite a dramatic image. Nice work.

Evelynn : )

Excellent framing with the diagonals and that jutting piece of rock in the top right hand corner. The colours are really impressive too. The splash gives the final dramatic touch. Great photo

Hi Paul,
marvellous deep clours, dramatic depth of scene, an exciting splash in the distance - what a great image to celebrate your #400! My congratulations!
With thanks and best regards,

Hello Paul!
I do not know how it was possible, but I haven't noted this picture when it was presnted :<
What I like the most is perfect timing! The effect of sea and rocks "meeting" looks fantastic, especially with so vivid and saturated colours. CP filter added a lot, and 1/6 second allowed to keep lovely climat. Funny name of the rock too ;>
Greetings from Poland,

PS. One more thing I almost overlooked (again...) - congratulation because of 400th post! I hopr to see soon another 400 :>
