Boyunçeviren / Wryneck / Jynx torquilla

The Eurasian Wryneck, Jynx torquilla, is a species of wryneck in the family of woodpeckers.

This species breeds in temperate regions of Europe and Asia. It is migratory, wintering in tropical Africa and southern Asia. It is a bird of open woodland and orchards. On migration it is frequently seen in sandy areas, where it forages for ants.

Their bills are shorter and less dagger like than in the true woodpeckers, but their chief prey is ants and other insects, which they find in decaying wood or almost bare soil. They re-use woodpecker holes for nesting, rather than making their own holes. The eggs are white, as with many hole nesters.

These birds get their English name from their ability to turn their heads almost 180 degrees. When disturbed at the nest, they use this snake-like head twisting and hissing as a threat display. This odd behaviour led to their use in witchcraft, hence to put a "jinx" on someone..

Hello Bedri,
Very good photo of this Wryneck. Colours, pose and sharpness are all excellent. Good OOF BG, but I should have cropped a piece of the left empty space. Good POV and DOF.

Merhaba Bedri Bey,

Hello Bedri,
Beautiful view of species such rare on TN. Very good sharpness, nice pose and light.
Regards, Pawel

bu da pek güzel. duruşu, kompozisyon ve fonu ve tabiki netliği, göz teması da çok güzel. elinize sağlık Bedri Bey.

Merhaba Bedri bey,
ağacın dokusu ile kuşun renk uyumu inanılmaz. Bu kamuflaj ustasını, ustaca fotograflamak büyük başarı. Mutlu bayramlar...

Hallo Bedri
Wow this bird has good ways to camoflage itself, especially if one look at the bark of the tree it is sitting against. I don't think I have ever seen a bird with such prominent features in its face. This is a real fascinating bird with lovely markings on its feathers. I like its pose and the way it look to the back. Best regards and thanks for sharing.

This bird is charming. Composition and presentation are very well done.
Best wishes,

Gerçekten süper bir kamuflaj örneği.
Emeğinize sağlkık Bedri Bey.

Hi Bedri,

You managed a far better shot of the Wryneck than I managed. Great focus and fine detail, difficult with this bird blending into the trunk. Colours and spot on. Well spotted ant taken.

TFS regards Bill

Kamuflaj özelliğindeki tüy ve desenleri ile resim küçükken zor farkediliyor. Gerçekten muhteşem bir kamuflaj örneği.
Emeğinize sağlık.
