Hello my friends !!!

I'm back after a long absence - in fact, I have some Internet problems, and problems with my (very) old computer so I've been rather kept away from Internet and from everything I was doing through Internet. This is the reason why I didn't post a picture in such a long time. But I missed TN, the pictures, the friends, the comments, so I am back here, now, on my friend's computer. Not as good as having my own computer back, but better than nothing.

I have visited a friend in Chamonix, in the French Alps, during six days. As it is a wonderful region, I have also done some hiking there. It was fresh, often grey and rainy, and always very foggy - no bright sunshine anymore. But it was still a great holiday, and I came home with plenty of pictures.

This is a picture of a female "Capra ibex" (also called Alpine Ibex, and in French it is called Bouquetin des Alpes). It was probably the greatest moment of all the great moments I have experienced there, so I choose to post this in first place.

I was hiking at 2500 m altitude, wandering (quite clumsily) on the rocks for more than 2 hours to get to the Black Lake, which was reputed to be a real jewel. And it IS a real jewel. But I will not give too many details about the lake now, I save them for tomorrow (or the next days) when I will post a picture of the lake.

When I walked back from the lake I suddenly saw a rock falling down from the top of the rocky crest ; I looked up, and then I saw them - wild Ibex !!! A female and a young one, just 10 meters away from me ! I had seen these animals in zoos or wildlife parks before, but to see them in the wild is so very different ! They were there, so close, not even afraid of me - eating grass and lichens that were growing between the rocks, sometimes jumping from one rock to another, sometimes looking down at me curiously (or making fun of me because I was SO clumsy compared to them :-) !

I couldn't stop watching them, and I took more than 100 pictures in less than 10 mn. It was incredible. They are so beautiful - so breathtakingly beautiful. And to see them move around, it was... wow. Just wow. Amazing.

Later, I saw an entire herd, and then again I couldn't stop taking pictures. And later again, I saw one of them, a big male, walking on the path just in front of us. He walked slowly, not even a tiny bit afraid. When I came too close, he climbed up the slope, waited there, and when I was far away again, he went down on the path again. Was quite funny to watch.

But the picture here - the one I post today - was taken during my very first encounter with the Ibex. As I told earlier, the greatest moment of many many great moments. I think I will never forget it, even if I live a thousand years...

Hi Valerie,
Nice to see you posting again. Sorry to hear about your computer. Anyway, this is a nice picture. Your long lenses did wonderful in getting close to this ibex. POV and composition are great. Have a nice weekend.

Impresionante captura Valerie.

Hello Valerie!
You were really lucky walking in the mountains. This is a very nice capture of species which is not easy to see.
Nice composition and details. Moreover, a note is very informative :)
All the best,

Salut Val

Having seen the black lake first, I now share your excitement at your first view of an Ibex in wilderness, Valerie. This female is oggling you with such intensity it seems to be equally pleased to have her first encounter with a human being with so much of love for wild life in her heart. It is a meeting of the equals!
The picture is fantastic in terms of clarity, and those blurred cliffs behind the subject make this a really authentic image.
I have seen quite a few pictures of the male Ibex with its curved horns, but this is my first view of a gentle looking female.
I'm happy you had this wonderful holiday in the Alps. I, on the contrary, sit the whole day in a basement hall six days a week, trying to make sense of the endless stream of e-learning digital modules my colleagues churn out at a mad pace. I'm their supervisor :-)!
Thanks, and it has been fun to find some time to browse through TN; today is a holiday on account of Eid at the end of a month's fasting for our Islamic friends all over the world.

Hello Valerie
Excellent shot of this wild goat with nice point of view and wonderful composition.
TFS and regards,

bonjour et rebienvenue parmi nous Valérie

Outstanding photo Valerie,
So you shot 100 in less then 10 minutes...boy does that ring a bell..sometimes I can't believe how many I take until I download them.
This is an incredible image you have captured. The detail is super, and the composition couldn't be better. Love the natural coloration and the semi OOF. BG. Well done!!
There is nothing like the feeling you get when you view an animal in the wild, that you normally only see in zoos.

That is quite true Valerie.... some things, good, EXCELLENT or bad .... we never ever forget.
Quite a lovely note.... I loved it. This note is "YOU". THE REAL YOU.
Liked the image of the pregnant ibex too.
Please give my regards to your kind mother.
Warm greetings of friendship from Canada,
