[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Edelweiss(Leontopodium alpinum), is one of the best-known European mountain flowers, belonging to the sunflower family (Asteraceae). The name comes from German edel (meaning noble) and weiss (meaning white). The scientific name, Leontopodium, means "lion's paw" and is derived from the Greek words leon (lion) and podion (diminutive of pous, foot).

Since it usually grows in inaccessible places, it is associated in many countries of the alpine region with mountaineering. Its white colour is considered a symbol of purity, and holds a Latin as well as Romanian name, "floarea reginei" (Queen's flower).

I took this shot up on the cliffs of the Ceahlau Massif while going up towards the top. It was really windy and very steep so all my attempts with the longer, typical Macro lens have failed. Therefore, this shot is taken with the little 17-70mm, but it turned out quite well, thanks to its good "macro" capabilities.

Hope you'll like it and thanks for visiting.

Hello Horia !
I just came back from a 6-days holiday in the mountains, and I have spent quite some time there, looking for this wonderful flower (but without any success). It's quite funny that you show up with this flower just on the day when I came back, giving me a nice little surprise ! :-)
As for the picture, it is of the best quality, as usual from you. I love the details and the hairy textures of the flower, I love the soft tender colors, I love the composition and the blurred BG. It is a real pleasure for the eye.
Very well done !

wonderful specie in a so soft and pretty image.
I like the delicate colors and the beautiful bokeh.
very nice pic

Preciosa Horia.
Saludos: Josep Ignasi.

nice closeup, TFS Ori

Foarte frumos!

Toate cele bune, Oana

Beautiful flower in very delicate composition, excellent colors in the background helping the flower to standout. tfs.

Hi Horia
excellent shot. perfect light and DOF
I found only one edelweiss in 4 weeks mountaineering. It was too early in the season and the blossom was not complete. I hope I got more lucky next year.

Bonjour Horia,

Hi Horia,
My first thought was; he had to climb dangerously to capture this one. And, I guess I am right reading your note.
The capture is really wonderful and the shallow DOF worked out perfectly. I like the overal soft feel to the photo caused by the soft pallet of colors. The details in the photo are stunning.
