This was Turnbull National Recreation area taken today, October 14, 2009. It rained most of the morning and since we had such a dry summer and hot, the last few cold days have brought out the colours. Turnbull is a few hundred thousand square acres of wildlife and the only man entrance in via a foot trail. One is not allowed to walk of the trail as many birds here are federally protected as are the wetlands...

This image is best seen in large, as it gives you the full 16:9 scope of this amazing land. Click here to see its home in large.

I also put a picture of my ride to this location in Workshop with explanation..

This was shot with a hand held Leica D-Lux4. It is much better---about 3 times better, than its predecessor.D-Lux 3

Hi Robert
Beautiful picture. Wonderful colours, good sharpness, nice composition.
That's a nice change from what I can see outside the window (today the first snow came to my place).
Thanks for sharing

Hello Robert,
Nice colours you got here. I live in Brasil and here we have nice weather all the time, but we can't see colours changing like this. very well done and TFS.

Hi Bob.

You have integrated all the elements of nature very well in this single frame. The variation of green and brownish orange is so contrasting and beautifully separated land and sky as well. Sharp image and thanks for sharing.

Best regards,

Hi Bob
Pretty spot you captured with all the fall colours and reflecting ponds. The rain brings out the colours even more. I'd take the rain over the 3 inches of snow we just had ; )

Hi Bob!

I'm glad to re-discover your gallery and your texts. I like this plain countryside very much. Its simplicity is mystic and the slow light underlines the softness of the spot and the tenderness of the colours.

Kind regards

A fine landscape with a great interchange of colours Bob, the brown areas reflecting not only the time of year but also the dryness compared with the green fringes round the ponds. Both this and the pan. version are great to view. The wildlife, especially insect, must be great here.
Best wishes to you Sir!

Nice seeing one of your photographic creations after quite a long time Bob, a beautiful piece of wilderness indeed, which combines the dead and living components of the natural environment in perfect concordance. The semi-panoramic format enhanced the baeuty of the image greatly. TFS indeed MF.

hello Bob,
Very happy to see that you are again among us! And with a picture full of peace and silence. Very fine landscape picture, which is sublime in its larger version. I like the point of view you have chosen with this open view on ponds, forest and sky.
Very well seen.

Hi Bob

Nice to see you here as well, old friend!
I hope you are well and since i see your little Leica is working just fine in your hands :)
This is a lovely scenery! I can only imagine how many cool things a nature photographer could soot here :)
You managed a lovely composition here - with 2/3 ground and 1/3 sky in the frame. The forest does well to separate the two and also add a bit more perspective the the scene.
I also like the small reflections in the ponds...very eye-catchy :)
Overall, the colors are beautiful, the depth is excellent and the exposure spot-on.

Bravo and TFS

Ciao Bob, fascinating landscape with fantastic warm colors, splendid reflections, very well done, ciao Silvio

Hello Robert,
Excellent landscape, with wonderful colours and very good sharpness. It's a very nice composition.

Hy Bob
You captured very well this autumnal landscape. I like the vertical silhouettes of the pines among the patches of yellow-orange-brown grass.
My kind regards, Oana

Hi Bob,it seem to be there, this pic is true, this pic talk....talk about the autumn, about the colors,i can hear the cold wind on my face...this is a beautiful spectacle my friend! Have a good night and thanks to show me this beauty! Luciano

Hi Bob,
good to know that your eye is still turned towards the wild side :-)) . What is interesting with this landscape: it seems to have been an awfully effective dry season, allowing only plants in contact with the open water to keep their greenness. The system of ponds seem manmade, maybe it is an ancient peat exploitation? But then you have the incongruous rocks to the left. The low tree density points to much humidity.

But now I checked with Google Earth: the region is part of the "Channeled Scablands", and the origin of these is world wide unique and not manmade at all! Thanks, Bob, for introducing us to this interesting region and making me wonder!

My best regards

Beautiful image Bob!!!
The layout and colors of the landscape is Awesome!! Give me a camera and a couple hours in a place like this and I'd be one happy fellow!

Breath taking colors! Fabulous. IT looks so cool - temperature I mean but also cool as in a really cool photo. ha ha
the ponds look like footsteps.

Hello Bob,
What an exciting and beautiful view across these channelled scablands in Turnbull N.P. I love your composition and the colours and clarity are fantastic. It reminds me a bit of Swedish boglands, especially the colours and the surrounding forest. Very nice!!
Many thanks and kind regards, Ulla

Hi Bob,

The reflections on the water of the ponds are assets to the composition. The trees are a natural frame to the ponds. The point of view takes my eyes toward the trees in the background which is giving depth to the photo. The light is giving soft colors to the scenery. Have a nice day.

hello Bob

this is a very beautiful autumnal scenery,
on of your most beautiful landscape photos,
fine POV and DOF, i love the wide angle framing,
beautiful colour tones and excellent contrast, TFS

Hello Robert,

This is an interesting landscape, in particular good looking this time of year when the colour setting changes!
Seems like an important habitat for the birds, migratory as well as resident...
A lovely composition that conveys the wet and chilly autumn feeling so well!

Pablo -

hi Bob

good to see you still getting out and about even if it is in the car! I think you made a much better job of the picture from the car than a lot of us would have done.

I like the log fallen in the foreground that is lined up acting as a pointer in to the photo. From the workshop we can see that this was litterally taken in the wet as well. the larger picture shows this area up really well.

I managed to miss the autumn colours this year - in the UK they were really good - but my camera was in the repair shop and now that it is home again, it is either exceptionally wet or I'm back in bed with a cold as I am today. But it has at least allowed me time to catch up on TN in the warm!

take care and best wishes
