Asian Brown Flycatcher
Size: 14 cm
Description:
Medium –sized, stocky flycatcher with large head and eyes, and short tail. It has a paler and browner than Dark-sided with whiter under-parts and only diffuse brown wash on flanks and breast. It has a faint, dark moustachial-stripes. Thin, white wing stripes and obvious whitish eye rings, lores and throat. It has a shorter primary projection and larger bill with prominent yellow base to lower mandible. It has black legs. Both sexes are alike. Juvenile has paler, especially below, and with whiter spotting.
Voice:
Usually silent but call tzet. Sound loud and trilling.
Habits:
Inhabits open deciduous forests, plantations, groves and gardens. It feeds as Spotted but less aerial and more crepuscular. They are usually single, perches rather low.
Distribution:
A common winter visitor throughout the island. |
