[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Here's the rare Club-tailed Dragonfly which I photographed in June.

This is my 600th post on TN!!!! :)))))

I hope you like it!

Club-tailed Dragonfly - Gomphus vulgatissimus

Recorded once over 150 years ago. This is considered an Irish species on the basis of a record believed to come from Youghal Co. Cork in the mid-nineteenth century and collected by Miss Ball a respected entomologist. There is a possibility that undetected populations could occur on the large rivers in the south and east. The Club-tailed Dragonfly is found on large slow-flowing rivers. In Britain the adult flight period extends from mid May to early July.

This species is unlikely to be confused with any other Irish species.

A medium sized species with club-shaped abdomen
males black with extensive yellow markings on thorax and abdomen which turn green when mature
females black with extensive yellow markings.

Hello Joe,
I cannot believe that you already reached number 600! Congratulations. You have chosen to show us a very vivid and natural picture of this beautiful Club-tailed dragonfly, which I have seen once or twice close to the river where I live. But your picture beside the fact that it is well taken shows an interesting cannibal behaviour of this species.
I like your vertical framing and the fine natural colors.
Well seen and done!
Kind regards

Well composed, maybe a bit tight, well exposed with natural colours. Sharpness and DOF are on top and the d-fly stand out nicely from the BG.
Great work, young friend.

Hi Joe

Many many congrats for you reaching 600!!! Wow...what an impressive number, my friend!
During all this time, i think you've progressed a huge deal and are now ready to "battle" any profession photographer out there.
This photo does well to prove my statement, since it's very well and elegantly composed, it's incredibly sharp and so well exposed. You really have your way of using the fill-in flash (as you did here) - a method that i haven't really mastered yet :)
Anyway, a splendid shot of this Club-tailed Dragonfly, one of the best i've seen on TN.

Bravo, TFS and to many more!

Warm congratulation for this wonderful 600th post1
Great realisation!

Congratulations Joe!
An excellent capture of a Club-tailed dragonfly to celebrate your 600th post! The lateral POV shows this female, while she is feasting on a damselfly, with excellent sharpness and lighting against a fine neutral BG. Both a fine portrait of this species as well as an action shot!

Well done and I look forward to seeing many more from you.

Hello Joe
Excellent macro with vivid colors and great details
