Taken in the garden this afternoon. We have a pair that seem to live in the Ivy hedge. They stay around all day and seem to sing a lot.
We have had a dry day but with a fair amount of cloud.

Dunnock ( Prunella modularis ) Length 14 - 15 cm.
Common but unobtrusive resident breeding bird in Britain and Ireland, except on Shetland. Adult has a chestnut brown back , blue grey underparts, streaked flanks and needle bill. Feeds quietly on ground searching for insects and seeds. Most noticeable in early spring when male sings lively.Favours woods , hedgerows and gardens.

Hello Nick,
A superb sharp capture of a Dunnock, taken today!
The lateral POV is great and the image is well composed on the log and taken with great lighting against a fine OOF natural BG.
I wish ours would show up when the ligthing is OK! They either show themselves at dusk or at dawn, in either case not photographable.
Thanks and have a good weekend,

Hello Nick,
a fantastic capture of the Dunnock, not easy to photograph this shy bird in an unsheltered place, superb sharpness and marvellous colours, a very pleasing composition with a very lovely pose and splendid light.
Have a good weekend

Hi Nick,
I like this bird, also had such a specimen in my garden - Heckenbraunelle in German.
First I thought this was a different looking sparrow - but than I saw this impressive eye.
We can see it very well in your shot here.
Wonderful, you are the bird-specialist here, thanks
Sabine - wishnugaruda

Thank you for looking for the english word for my wasp.

Hi Nicholas,

Without words ... this picture is the best definition of this day.

The only way this picture is more true to nature, would be if the birds are singing and flying out!

TFS and happy Sunday MF!

Hello Nicholas,
Exactly visible all the details in superb light, saturated colours. The bird seem to be concerned with view of the camera. Very charming photo.

Hi Nick,

Another fantastic capture my friend! The dark background and sharp focus on the cute Dunnock looks effective. It also seems quite camouflaged against its surroundings, especialy trumk which stand on. Nicely taken close up as usual MF!
TFS and have a nice week!

Buena pose del ave y naturalidad en los colores. Tiene más realismo que otras de tus fotografías.
Buena semana Nicholas: Josep Ignasi.

Best regards,

Hello Nicholas
you are lucky to have so many different birds in your garden, this one is wonderful, a great quality shot as always with superb composition and fine details
Have a good night

An excellent shot, Nick...The details, technically, can only be flawless if it bears your signature...Whats really amazing is the composition, so simple, yet so exotic...

One of my favourite subjects Nick and you've caught it so well.

Love the natural perch, great composition, nice colours and near perfect exposure. You've done a fab job of the focusing managing to get bang on the eye is not so easy with little active birds like this one.

Very slow shutter speed - 1/60th ??? You've been very lucky to gte such good results even with a tripod!

good morning Nicholas
what a beautiful Dunnock and its great capture with your usual quality. It gave a great pose with vivid eye iris. sharp details, POV/DOF, blurred BG and colors great. old trunk nice for composition. thanks for shairing this beauty. have a nice day my friend
