[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The Purple Star (Pisaster ochraceus) is the commonest starfish to be found in the intertidal zones in British Columbia. They have a variety of shades of purple and pink as seen here, but can be yellow and brown too.
Here they are out of water at low tide. With them are a host of California mussels (why California - they are ubiquitous?!). The green and purple things underneath and beside the starfish are aggregating anemones (they go by the marvellous name Anthopleura Elegantissima). They aren't looking elegant at the moment as they are tightly closed up since they are out of water.
I'm sure keener naturalists' eyes can see other critters in here too.

Great diagonal composition of your intertidal critters.
The contrasting colours of seastars, anemone and mussels is very good. I also think the exposure is handled quite well. great shapes and tones, well done.

Hi John, great shot. I've never seen any purple starfish before. The composition is good and the colours are great. It's not that this photo is overexposed but I think you should have underexposed it a little to cut down on the reflections.
