The itch to do some landscape photography:

We marched on top of the Dent du Chamois (1'824 m a.s.l.). in Gruyère, Canton de Fribourg. I took the shot in the direction of Bulle (over the right edge) with a compact camera. The camera allows little control of the realized image, so you just pray that the picture has turned out right and that Photoshop may straighten it out later.

How have these "Dents" (=teeth) originated? From the little I know of Geology there was much compression of the alpine region some zig million years ago due to a push of the African plate. This led to squeezing out of huge folds, like the folds in a table cloth when shoved together. One such fold, made from sediments formed in the Secondary (Jurassic chalk) overlaid the much jounger Tertiary sediments in Gruyère. The sheet-like fold also broke up in right angles to the direction of advancement , leaving those Dents, like the "Dent de Broc", "Dents Vertes" or this "Dent du Chamois". You can see the arrangement of the giant broken-up fold in Gruyère with Google Earth (click on "Map: view")

Hello Dietrich,
A super view of this 'Chamois tooth'!
Beautifully composed with the meadow FG and the rocky pinnacle itself as the main subject. Both a naturalists and rock-climber's paradise!
Thanks and best regards,
Ivan

Hallo Dieter!

Es freut mich sehr zu sehen, wie du die Bergwelt geniesst! Ich mag dein Bild sehr, es gefäält mir vor allem wegen seiner Schlichtheit und der besonderen Stimmung, welche die Wolke hervorruft. Dein Begleittext is spannend und interessant. Wenn du wüsstest, wie das Warten lang wird...

Grüessli

Markus

Hello Meyered,
A very beautiful and dramatic capture of this steep Alp from an interesting angle. I like the misty effect and the beautiful low POV that adds depth. I'd love to see the same view taken at in different weather conditions! Very well done!
TYFS and regards, Ulla

Hi Dietrich.
What a wonderful picture, place and POV. Great vertical orientation of the image, wonderful natural colours and perfect details. Pictured moment, impressive haze on a peak. Bravo.
Alexei.
