A successful visit to the Kruger National Park is determined by whether you spot a cheetah. We were fortunate with two sightings of this scarce animal. There was a log right by the roadside and the cheetah was very obliging and jumped onto the log and stood there posing for us. Needless to say I got quite a few good photos, this is one of my favourites. Kruger National Park is 350 km long and 60 km wide and with a total of only 225 cheetah in the park, a sighting is extremely fortunate.

Hi Peter

Previous years we always had our fair share of cheetah sightings, but for some very
strange reason we never saw one this year. You not only were rather very fortunate
with this sighting, but you scored the jackpot with the scenario and the amazing pose
this guy gave you. Its position on the log, the pointed tail, the intense stare to the rear,
the camera/photo friendly BG and habitat (no grass, twigs, or branches to come in the
way) all adds to the atmosphere of this incredible shot.

To you and your loved ones I wish a blessed Christmas and a wonderful 2010.

Well done and TFS.
Regards
Loot

Hallo Peter
I have told you before, but I want to tell you again that I am really very jealous of this image of the cheetah. During our vacation in the Kruger in October 2009 I think I was looking forward to capture a cheetah more than a leopard and I cannot really say why. I was very disappointed and here you came back after your visit to the Kruger with this great image. If it was only a normal image of a cheetah lying somewhere in the grass, I would not have envied you so much, but the pose this guy gave you is what makes this image so super special. If it was just a normal pose with the cheetah standing somewhere along the road or in the grass, it also would have been fine, but this guy went out to spoil you and give you the opportunity to photograph it. This is a fine image, with lots of character to it. Maybe next time around I am lucky, but until then, I remain jealous. (Of course in a nice way) I could not let it pass without adding it to my personal favourites. Thanks for sharing. I wish you and your family the all of the best, which you so well deserve. May you have a wonderful photographic year in 2010. Best regards.
Anna

Peter, I'm as jealous as can be. When we were in the park in December we saw two cheetahs but they were far and my shots were not as good as yours. The one seemed to have a problem with is left hind leg and was limping. I reported this as soon as we reached Satara. I love the way he was posing for you and you captured it stunningly with the faded background. VWD and TFS.
