well the entire UK seems to be paralysed by Winters grip the last few days, everywhere that is except where i live on the south coast, in Bournemouth. We've only had about an 2 - 4cm of snow! So, not to miss out on the fun, i ventured out to the New Forest on Saturday, where i found a good layer of the white stuff on higher ground.
This was taken as the sun was setting, on a bitterly cold hill top amongst the dead ferns and skeletal remains of Gorse. This particular twisting limb grabbed my attention as i trudged back to my car, feet increasingly cold. With a small tree hunkered down on the hill top behind and a back drop of firey sky, it was too much to resist getting the camera out one more time and setting up...how many times i say to myself 'one last time' i don't know, but it seems there's always something else to capture...eventually i had to leave the heathland, as the bogs around me were frozen and the light and temperature we both fading fast.

Thanks for looking...

*Many thanks also to those of you who commented on my last posting. A magazine called Hampshire Life approached me about using it and is going to print it on a double page feature - so the early rise was worth it!*

Hi Paul

Congratulations on your publication!

Another well thought out shot - excellent use of the frame and good distribution of visual elements.

Apparently we don't have much snow at home - just a vicious frost!! Meantime, we are in the somewhat less swealtering environs of Dakar in Senegal (compared to Mali), having sacked our guide and driver - we are just going to pick up a hire car in a few minutes!

What a great capture this wonderful landscape!
Colors and light are fantastic!

Hi mate,

Wooooh well done getting published - that's great, you must be well chuffed - "work satisfaction" they call it!! This is another lovely shot, great colours, well spotted too, and you handled the exposure / use of ND grad well as I'm sure the sky must have been in danger of quashing those bits of colour in the heath. Worth the cold hands and feet!

TFS as ever,

ps will you still talk to us when you're famous?! ;-)

Hello Paul,
Great to have your last posting published. I think you are very proud.
This phto is also very beautiful. The branch is climbing like a dinosaurus against the hill. This creates a wonderful composition. Very beautiful colours with the light coming from the right. Excellent sharpness.

Hi Paul,
I love this shot and you gave this one a perfect headline ... Burning sky, ice-cold ground, together a wonderful post, thanks

Hello Paul!
Not only in the UK the winter is present, in Lodz there was snowing last weekn, and everywhere it is snow right now :>
This picture is semi-winter in my opinion ;> It has a very special character - I like a lot play of light and saturation. Also the composition is very nice for watching - dead tree adds a lot to this landscape :>
All the best from white Lodz!

Hi Paul,
What a mix of cold and warm colours!
And besides all seen from this upwards POV, that I found very dynamic and works pretty well to isolate the silhouettes of the two trees up there.
I like also the composition with the elements arranged from sun light to the blueish side of the sky.
Congratulations and thanks a lot for share the pic.

Hello Paul,
A very special landscape picture. I like the way you have integrated this amazing skeleton of tree , which makes the shot even more dramatic combined with the evening light. Like you I have always to tell myself to leave, I just forget myself at looking at all sorts of creatures and things.
I wish you a nice day
Kind regards

Ciao Paul, fascinating winter view with fantastic light and splendid warm colors, beautiful silhouette of lovely tree against a superb sky, great composition, very well done my friend, ciao Silvio

Hi Paul,
Splendid landscape.
It looks like a ready made picture frame. Everyone wants something in the apartment.
Have a nice evening,

Hi Paul

Congratulations are in order there...
as for the snow with me - well it is starting to melt - but it is still that deep on my track and lawn that it still catches on the underneath of the car and I can't shut the gate at all yet - have not had any post since a week last Monday now... that's 11 days now without post becuase of the snow and the track etc...

Anyhow to the picture - I like the warmth and coldness in this picture - the play is great - cold hand and feet are part of the 'art'.

Hi Paul,
I need to congratulate you twice. Once for the sale of your previous photo and once for the 4 years celebration on TN. Yes, we both started the same day.
This is a great scene where the color contrast is superb. The blue shadow in the bottom contrast wonderfully with the warm light of the sun. The small and large tree are nicely positioned from eachother and add good depth to the photo.

P.S. I hope you did check your winning photo on the mentioned dust spots.

Hi dear Paul ,
It is so nice work.
Lovely shot
