Le libellule

Orthetrum albistylum

E' un Libellulide di taglia medio-grande, un po' più piccolo, ma molto simile a Orthetrum cancellatum, dal quale si distingue facilmente osservando i cerci (le appendici terminali a forma di tenaglie, che in albistylum sono bianche). La colorazione complessivamente è quindi molto simile agli altri Orthetrum, dai quali si distingue anche per lo pterostigma nero, che contraddistingue questa specie e Orthetrum cancellatum. Questa specie ha una struttura slanciata, con il torace e l'addome sottili e stretti. I maschi adulti, come i congeneri, sono di una tonalità azzurro cielo con parte terminale dell'addome più scura, ma ad esempio rispetto a Orthetrum cancellatum i riflessi pruinosi sono meno evidenti. I maschi giovani e le femmine sono più giallastri con striature nere molto vistose. Con un minimo di esperienza sulle cose da osservare diventa una specie facilmente distinguibile da tutte le altre.

Orthetrum albistylum ha una distribuzione irregolare in Europa centrale e orientale, ma in certe situazioni si verificano delle forti concentrazioni.
In Italia è presente solo al Nord e nelle risaie ci sono grandissime popolazioni di questa specie, che, in questo ambiente, è una di quelle dominanti con Orthetrum cancellatum, Crocothemis erythraea, e Sympetrum fonscolombii. Questa specie frequenta quindi soprattutto raccolte di acqua ferma, anche se non è raro riscontrarla in altri ambienti, come canali e fiumi, infatti le larve si sviluppano bene sia nelle acque correnti che stagnanti, anche se la preferenza va per gli stagni ricchi di vegetazione.
Gli adulti frequentano le rive e le zone limitrofe dalla pianura alla collina.
E' una specie abbastanza comune e non risulta minacciata.


La fotografia

E’ stata scattata nell'Oasi dell'Isola della Cona, dove la presenza sia di acque stagnanti che correnti costituisce un habitat ideale per questa specie. Ho utilizzato il 300 mm con regolazione manuale della fotocamera. In questa immagine presento una femmina, che risulta facilmente riconoscibile per la colorazione bianca del decimo segmento addominale e dei cerci.
In WORKSHOP ho pubblicato la stessa libellula con un'angolazione di ripresa diversa, ottenendo uno sfondo alternativo. Il risultato in entrambi i casi presenta pregi e difetti e la scelta dell'uno o dell'altro dipende dal gusto personale nel decidere di esaltare certi elementi piuttosto che altri. Personalmente ritengo che lo sfondo del cielo porti a concentrarsi maggiormente sulla libellula, che lo sfondo della vegetazione crei un maggior impatto visivo, favorendo una visione d'insieme e un maggior contrasto di colori che esalta i contorni.

Now let me debate with myself: Was it the sharpness of the dragonfly or the gorgeous purple flower that attracted me to this image? My heart says the flowers with its bright yellow anthers, and my mind says the dragonfly with its shiny golden colour. I wonder, I ponder…..I think it is 50/50 because both features are very striking and well captured. A very striking image with an artistic touch to it, created by the blurred greenery in the foreground. This excellent shot shows magnificent details and lovely colours with a very pleasant composition. Thanks for sharing. Kind regards.

In Holland we don't see them but i saw them a few times in the south of France and i like them very much.
