Very fine picture of a cute Shrike, Goutham. In my opinion, we do not see this bird all that frequently on TN. The profile of the bird looks very beautiful against a soft and smooth BG.
Good to see you posting on TN again.
Regards.

Glad to see you posting again Goutham!
A classic species portrait of the Bay-backed Shrike, the sharpness, lighting and colours being first class. The OOF BG shows it up well even though it hav virtually the same colours as the shrike.
Makes a fine tribute to Loot!
Thanks and all the best,
Ivan

Dear Goutham,
It is indeed a great sharp photograph of a shrike perched on a tree branch with amazing details against a faded background where it stands out very well. TFS

Hi Goutham
I would be telling a tall story if I claim that I was in the least expecting a dedication or,
for that matter of fact, to even see a new posting from you. What a total and absolute
pleasant surprise. Little did I realise, at that time when I briefly discussed TrekNature
with you (on the other forum - as you mentioned in your notes), that it would have this
manner of consequence. I thank you from the bottom of my heart and you can be sure
that I took great pleasure in this kind gesture. Thanks so much Goutham.
How did you know how much I like the Shrikes? The whole family of Shrikes, Boubous,
Tchagras, Helmet Shrikes and the Bush Shrikes. They always appear to be such elegant
and graceful birds with their tidy plumages forever having every feather neatly in its place.
There are some really beautiful and colour species too, especially within the Bush Shrike
group. However, these are rather very shy birds and one doesn't see or find it very easily.
Even though you might have heard it calling and therefore you know for certain that it is in
a specific tree, but it still doesn't mean you're going to find and see it in that tree. Through
the years I have spent hours next to trees trying to find it, mostly unsuccessful, because
their colours blends in so well with their environment. I tried to find a couple of these on
the site (for reference), but it seems like they are just as rare here too.
Anyway, back to your lovely image. I have never seen the Bay-backed Shrike before, so
thanks for the introduction. The nearest appearing Shrike we have here in South Africa
is the Red-backed Shrike, but the facial mask is not as broad around the forehead and
the wing edges is not black. You have captured a perfect shot of this lovely little bird. All
technical aspects are spot-on. Sharp details, appropriate DOF, superb colour saturation,
and a fabulous BG that is so complimentary to the bird. The composition is also well done.
The single branch delivering the Shrike into the image and ample space in front of the little
bird to gaze or fly into.
Very well done MF and TFS.
Take care and have a great weekend.
Regards
Loot

Hallo Goutham
Lovely bird, lovely dedication and lovely to see you around. You’re fine images and you as person are missed around the site. Just as much as Loot has described this beautiful little bird, just as much I like it too. It has delicate features and has the words “Handle with care” written across it, as it surely looks very fragile. Details like the soft colours on the feathers and the black eye within the black stroke of feathers around the eye is captured beautifully and is super sharp. I like the neutral background which also creates a pleasing frame around the bird. Thanks for sharing this Bay-backed Shrike as part of a dedication to Loot. It is a great gesture from one excellent photographer to another excellent photographer.
Best regards.
Anna

Hello Goutham !
You hav so many wonderful pictures, but this one I like more than the others, because the bird is such a beautiful one. I really like his markings, specially that black strip on its face. The composition is abolutely splendid, with lots of space in front of the bird, the colors are lovey, the pose of the bird is great, the details are outstanding, and the blurred BG is just perfect. Very well done !
Valérie.
