|Hi Folks , today I have this photo of a pair of mates. these geese where two of six in the area who had been having some disputes over territory. they where scuffling over a small defrosted are across river , so I moved in and sat down on the river rocks to see if I may get an action shot of their next fight :-) |
this pair surprised me when instead of making another try for the defrosted island they decided that my side of the river was looking pretty good... for a second there I wondered if this bold male was going to make a charge at me , they came up on the bank and he started honking away , but I guess thought better of taking a run at a human and they both got back into the water and swam around some more. I took a few more photos , then decided to leave them be...
thanks for having a look

Hi Art I just love to see these birds as I know that winter is just about done for the next 7 or months or so.The focus is very sharp and the details are good and the only thing that could be better would be more colour to brighten up things a bit, still I do like this photo very much. Now I must haul my lazy self out and get some captures of my own, gimp knee and all! Thanks Art for sharing a fine time of the season shot.I can smell spring on the air and can't wait for it to happen as it is my most favourite time of the year.

Nice clear shot. Shallow DOF accentuate focus on main subjects. I love the low POV. The composition is simple and effective. There is no disturbing elements in the composition. Perfect exposure and focus, excellent contrast. A splendid image. TFS.
I am considering buying a long zoom lens. This lens is among my choice, however there is no AF-S focusing on it. Some magazine testing seam to say the lens is slow focus compare to Sigma HSM and Canon USM. How is it performing with the D300? Do you miss shot because of slow focus on moving subjects sometime? Is it more noisy than your other AF-S? Are you AF-S faster focusing? Is the VR doing a good job? By experience I prefer Nikon to other brand, but I can't afford the 200-400mm Nikkor. You don't have to answer all thes quetions, but considering your result I can feel your comments on it will be of great value. Thanks.
