Hello everyone - I don't do much macro work - but this is one attempt. I think it is a pryamidal orchid - but I am not sure.

Incidentally, this was taken very close to Bayram's birthplace.

Orchidaceae, the Orchid family, is the largest family of the flowering plants (Angiospermae). Its name is derived from the genus Orchis.

The Royal Botanical Gardens of Kew list 880 genera and nearly 22,000 accepted species, but the exact number is unknown (perhaps as many as 25,000) because of taxonomic disputes. The number of orchid species equals about four times the number of mammal species, or more than twice the number of bird species. It also encompasses about 6–11% of all seed plants. About 800 new orchid species are described each year. The largest genera are Bulbophyllum (2,000 species), Epidendrum (1,500 species), Dendrobium (1,400 species) and Pleurothallis (1,000 species). The family also includes the Vanilla (the genus of the vanilla plant), Orchis (type genus) and many commonly cultivated plants like some Phalaenopsis or Cattleya.

Moreover, since the introduction of tropical species in the 19th century, horticulturists have produced more than 100,000 hybrids and cultivars.

The complex mechanisms which orchids evolve to achieve cross-pollination were investigated by Charles Darwin and described in his 1862 book Fertilisation of Orchids. (Wiki)

Nice Anacamptis pyramidalis!

The whites of the petals seem to be a tad saturated.

TFS,

Ishi

Hello James
A beautiful image of this wild orchid, taken with perfect details.
As Ishi and Jeroen already recognize the species, I can recognize the shape of the inflorescence , characteristic to this species.
My kind regards,
Oana

Hallo James
Everything in this image is just so gorgeous, and if I started to point out things that I particularly fancy, I would point out from corner A to corner D, as the image as a whole is just perfect. One cannot help to fall in love with this lovely flower. It is an amazing tender shot of a charming plant and its flowers. I am stunned with the delicateness of the colours, great details of the flower and the pleasant neutral background. I like the overall gentle softness in this image. Unfortunately I cannot help you with the ID. Thanks for sharing. Kind regards.

Anna

Hello James,
This is one flower that I'm not familiar with, but you have captured it's beauty with wondeerful detail and gorgeous colors. The blurred BG gives this fine image a 3D effect which I really like, and the exposure is right on the money.

Hi James,
such a beautiful purple orchid. Excellent lighting really push this flower into a splendid capture. The formation is lively, the unopened till the opened ones.
Nice and pleasant with bokeh so well controlled.

Foozi
