Hello all,

Birds as humans like to have fun. At Frisco (suburb of Dallas, Texas, USA) in May 2009, I was invited to an animal mask ball. This bird with this mask was so visible amongst the other guests. But he was easy to recognize even with this great mask, with its so long tail, looking like a scissor You should have seen the costume of the Northern Mockinbirds: true clowns!!!

Cool Facts

The Scissor-tailed Flycatcher forms large premigratory roosts in late summer, with up to 1,000 birds in one flock. They often roost near towns, perhaps taking advantage of the large trees as roosting sites.

The Scissor-tailed Flycatcher uses many human products in its nest, such as string, cloth, paper, carpet fuzz, and cigarette filters. One study of nests in an urban area in Texas found that artificial materials accounted for 30% of the weight of nests.

Inclement weather can be an important factor in causing nest failure of open country birds. High winds and thunderstorms can destroy large numbers of Scissor-tailed Flycatcher nests in some years, accounting for nearly half of all nest failures.

Nice to see you again MF:) This is absolutely a powerful predation capture of this beauty with impressive details!
The colors are perfectly shown and very natural. I like the great contrast between the colors of the poor butterfly and the blurry BG. The sharpness is great and the POV is also superb. The DOF is praiseworthy.

Hello Michel,
A super shot of this beautiful bird chowing down on what appears to be a type of Sulfur butterfly. Exceptional detail and gorgeous colors. Great exposure and very informative notes. Well done!!

L'oiseau est bien placé dans le cadrage. La prise de vue permet de voir les détails et les couleurs du Tyran à longue queue. L'image est claire et nette. La qualité de la lumière rehausse les couleurs de l'image. bonne soirée.

Hi Michel,
Well captured with great timing showing this flycatcher with a mouythful.Great exposure bringing out the colouration and shapes of each individual feather.Pity the tail has been excluded otherwisw a really greta photo.
