This Cretzschmar's Bunting (Emberizidae caesia, Kızıl kirazkuşu in turkish), is a passerine bird in the bunting family Emberizidae. The photo was taken in Pamukkale, where I had the chance to go thanks to Bayram. They were very good info and a beautiful photo about this species on the previous Bayram’s post and note about this species… dead link today.

After receiving personal attacks and insults from 2 TN members, including a new one, who totally violates the TOS of TrekNature, our friend Bayram decided to remove all his photos from his gallery except 3. It is his decision and we must respect it.

But I must say that it is a great loss, like a burned library…

1. Bayram is among the few old members who always understand the purpose of TrekNature “to learn more about the world through nature photography”. He shared with us 642 photos, among them many unknown and rare species, always taken with great care, and also ready to share his knowledge in nature photography. I learned a lot from his photos in terms of composition, timing, aperture, framing.... and about the beauty and richness of Nature.

2. Despite his heavy charge of professor at Ege University, Izmir and editor of scientific publications, he took time to share with us his knowledge in biology, especially herpetology. All his photos were accompanied by a well documented note, with references. It was very kind of him and a greet honour for us. Do you know many University professors who do that for free?
So many times, when I was searching on google info about herptiles, also birds, plants… I found answers on the Bayram’s TN pages. All I know about herptiles, it is from him I learned it.

3. As the TOS said: “We encourage contributors who are courteous, polite and respectful. We discourage those who choose to behave in a disrespectful and/or irresponsible manner.” Bayram was 100% in this spirit, always encouraging news members, always polite and friendly with all members, especially new members. Critiques must encourage people and help them to improve their skill and knowledge. I know that some members don’t like dedications. It is their right. It takes all sorts to make a world and the international TN community… with respect of each others.

4. Having the chance to meet Bayram on begin April in Turkey, I must add that he is a very good man, joyful, patient, respectful, friendly, who has earned the respect and affection of his students. I had the chance to spend a day with one of his students who told me how much he takes care of them, going with them on the fields and even ready to learn from them. As Bayram said on his introduction page: "A good man is always a beginner! - always willing to learn".

As a conclusion, I must say that Bayram shares friendship and respect as a great value. Because skill and knowledge are nothing without these human qualities.

Teşekkür ederim sevgili arkadaşım Bayram. Elinize ve emeklerinize sağlık.

Hy Catherine
Today we are neighbors! I hope the trip to Greece and Turkey was very pleasant.
I saw you already posted images, but expect some flowers. I'm not a big fan of reptiles, but the birds do. But it seems that this bird is rather dark. Maybe it's my monitor, which is pretty dark
I do not believe it: the increasingly members leave the site, and just all too upset. I hope Bayram changes his mind: we need him because is a very good biologist and secondly, a very good photographer!

Hi Catherine. Firstly let me talk about the picture of the Bunting . Taken with a fine feather detail and good use of the light which has given natural colours. From the eye level POV we can see the wing markings. Well taken.

I have not been around much as i have had to to a lot of other things. I was sadened to see are good friend Bayram had taken his pictures of the site. I hope that in time he comes back.

Hello Catherine,
I love this bird that I was delighted to see and capture once on Cyprus. Great focus on the pretty eye and you show its beautiful markings and colours very clearly here. I like its pose too and the rocky background.
I'm very sorry about Bayram's reaction, he knows that we are many who value his contributions!
TFS and best wishes, Ulla

Ciao Catherine, lovely bird for our friend bayram, I hope he'll soon return:)
Ciao Silvio

Hi Catherine,

A beautiful Bunting - a bird I have only seen in pictures. A wonderful shot from Turkey which should bring a smile to Bayram's face.

Shortly after Bayram joined TN we adopted each other as brother and sister. I will miss his presence here more than I can say. I can only hope that in time he will return.

bonjour Catherine

Hello Catherine,
Wow ... I have no idea as was the "altercation" ... but it certainly is a tragic loss, the information provided by Bayram was very valuable! ... must have been a very serious problem for him to take this decision, but must be respected...

Hi Cathy,

A beautiful bird to Bayram with well respected comments you have made about him. No one couldve done it better because you have met, and spent time with him. He spent almost all his life to reach his dream goals and to always better himself, some people should respect that what ever their circumstances are. A true Nature lover.......
Thanks Catherine

I respect his decision even if leave is not the best way to respond to criticism, it is easy to be friends when all things go well, but not just abandon all for the widely criticized by anyone, even other friends deserve respect

Ciao Catherine. Wonderful macro shot in fine details and amazing warm tones. Bayram is a good friend, special photographer and intelligent person. Caspita BBB! This is not a problem!

Dear Catherine,
According to my Field Guide of Birds in Southern Africa, there are lots of Buntings in South Africa, but not the one depicted in your photo, a Cretzschmar's Bunting.

I like very much the natural colours in your photo, and the way you controlled the depth of field; a pleasure to view this image.

I googled Pamukkale and you must have had a great time in this important historic spot in Turkey.

Thanks for your contribution
Kind regards from South Africa
