Groundscraper Thrush (Turdus litsitsirupa)

The Groundscraper Thrush is a small to medium sized bird. This thrush imitates the calls of some other birds. Its distribution is Southern Africa to North-East Africa. In Southern Africa it is absent from the south, most of the dry west and southern Mozambique.

Fairly common resident, usually of local and sporadic occurence.

Found in savanna woodland, around farmyards and in thornveld. Quite bold, feeding on lawns and in gardens.

It feeds on insects and invertebrates.

Breeding takes place from October to December, nesting in the fork of a tree. The nest is made of twigs and leaves and lined with feathers.

This picture was taken in Pilanesberg National Park in an aviary.

Ja boet --

Another great photo from you. DOF is excellent. It's a pity that the catchlight was not more accentuated, but it's there and thats the important thing. Well done on this shot. It's excellent

Hi Jan Hendrik, Every aspect of your picture of that bird is excellent, lightling, point of view, focus, color etc... The only thing that bothers me somehow is the bright spot behind the bird, It could easily have been removed or masked with Photoshop. Still a great picture.

Jan, another beauty. I have the feeling that something like f/8 would have been better here, in order have the whole bird focused; even though, it's just an opinion.

Excellent sharpness, pov and composition; great bg.

A lovely and great picture.

Hello Jan

Nice close shot. Attractive plumage colours. Stands out nicely against the dark BG. Good light. Nice shot. Thanks.
