Green-Tailed Emerald (Chlorostilbon alice)

Certainly, last Saturday was a very sunny day and also a very, very lucky day! Because when I was taking photos of butterflies (my yesterday's fliying Pieridaes), this tiny hummingbird perched three feet in front of my nose! almost let fall the camera! ... I did not know how to focus! ... I removed the macro mode, I put normal approach, I put a bit of optical zoom and shot three shots! then, this tiny hummingbird flew away!...

I had to laugh for a long time ... I think I've never make three pictures so fast and without thinking!...truly a miracle! ha ha ha :)

In Wikipedia, said that the bird exists only in Venezuela, so surely is a 1st in TN! ... I hope not mistaken!

About this shot:
-ISO 100, White Balance set to "Auto".
-Custom colors with -25% contrast level.
-3.5X Optical Zoom.
-Photo taken with extreme haste! :)

Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Aves
Order: Apodiformes
Family: Trochilidae
Genus: Chlorostilbon
Species: C. alice
Binomial name: Chlorostilbon alice (Bourcier & Mulsant, 1848)

French: Émeraude alice
German: Grünschwanz-Smaragdkolibri
Spanish: Esmeralda Coliverde

The Green-Tailed Emerald (Chlorostilbon alice) is a species of hummingbird in the Trochilidae family. It is found only in Venezuela. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests, subtropical or tropical moist montanes, and heavily degraded former forest.

Possibly forms a superspecies with C. stenurus and C. poortmani. C. stenurus ignotus has been considered synonymous with present species. Probably includes C. micans, with all of plumage rich reddish-golden, known only from type specimen of unknown origin. “Ptochoptera iolaima”, known from a specimen taken at Ypanema, São Paulo (Brazil), is probably a hybrid between present species and C. poortmani. Monotypic.

Distribution: Mountainous regions of N Venezuela, from Falcón (Sierra de San Luis) S to Lara and Trujillo, and E to Sucre and N Monagas.

Saludos y felicitaciones

Hello Jesus,
Indeed, you were very lucky to get the chance the make such a photo of this Green-tailed Emerald. Difficult to find the right name, because there are a lot of chlorostilbons and amazilias in your country who looks almost all the same.
Very beautiful photo in splendid colours and very good sharpness. Nice pose and an excellent composition.
Regards,
Peter

Hi Jesus,
Splendid portrait of this Emerald!

Ciao Jesus.

Roberto

reading your notes in French we would say : « photos prises sur le vif »,
everything it is perfect on your photo Jesús and for me : with Bayram
you became the most polyvalent nature photographer on TN,
beautiful pose of the bird, great POV on it with framing,
always superb focus sharpness an details, only thing Jesús
if you could use the Flash maybe you could obtain a catch-light
at his eye that would render the photo more and more beautiful,

TFS

Asbed

Saludos,
Mauricio

Hello Jesús,
A fine opportunity well taken in this fine capture of a female Green-tailed Emrald. Technically this is afirst class and the POV shows her features with great sharpness and colours against a pleasing OOF natural BG. One of the joys and often frustration of nature photography is that things happen unexpectedly!
Thanks and best regards,
Ivan

Hi you lucky guy Jesus, what a great shot - you realy can be proud, so sharp, such a perfect pose. The ploumage is glittering in the sun, the colours are brilliant.
Thanks, I love it
