[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
A butterfly on a sunflower. Looks like a monarch but I don't think it is one.
I wish the butterfly had more contrasting colors but the hard light condition made it difficult to not overexpose the petals. |

Hi Nina,
It is a Vanessa cardui, a butterfly which belongs to the family of Nymphalidae. They cannot hibernate here in Europe since the climate is too cold, and so they make the trek from Africa to the European continent each year during summer. I do not know whether they are native to America though.
I like the composition, and while indeed the contrast is difficult, I love the bright yellow of the sunflower against the bright light. Well done!
Sunflowers are very popular today.
I also have one here :-)
The butterfly is very decorativ on this beautiful flower.
It's in the shadow, but the light shines through his wing, very nice.
Thanks

La lumière ne nous permet pas toujours d'obtenir ce qu'on souhaiterait. Mais le résultat et là et vous avez réussi une photo très colorée avec une mise au point en macro très réussie. Félicitations Nina.
