There are many types of ferns in the world. Species of fern grow in almost any climate, save sub-Antarctic. There are fern species that will grow in deserts, tolerating extreme heat and drought. Other types of fern will grow only in the deepest areas of the rainforest.

Several types of fern can be added to the same garden, for a dramatic look. Most of the fern species prefer shaded areas with moist soil, and these can be combined underneath a shade-giving tree for a spectacular look. Most species of fern are purely green, while other types of fern, such as cinnamon and Japanese painted, offer vivid colors to a shady garden.

Fern identification is often hard to do, as many species of fern look very similar. The easiest type of fern identification is close inspection of the orientation of the fronds and the leaves growing off the sides. Many types of ferns, while looking similar at first glance, will become very different indeed when inspected thoroughly.

The Different Types of Grasshoppers

There are about 11,000 species of grasshopper that have been validated, although the number is thought to be closer to 2,400 existent species, as many species are yet to be described or even discovered, especially those in tropical wet forests.

Some of the individual types of grasshoppers include:

Red Legged Grasshopper

The Red legged Grasshopper is brown in color but have bright red hind legs. It is usually seen on soybean crops and other similar plants.

Two-Striped Grasshopper

This specie loves grasses and other plants with broad leaves. They need these kinds of plants to attain their maximum growth. They usually appear late in May until early June.

Spur-Throated Grasshopper

The spur-throated grasshopper has a knob between its two front legs. It is brownish or yellowish in color and reaches a length of about one inch.

Band-Winged Grasshopper

You will identify this type of grasshopper by its brightly colored hind wings. In addition, the wings produce a cracking sound when the grasshopper is in flight.

Hello Foozi,
What a lovely and powerful composition! I like this shot very much. And if there is a hopper on it, I'm twice so happy. Very fine different shades of green and an interesting graphical aspect created by the leaves of this special Fern (?). Very well done!
Kind regards

Hello Foozi
very beautiful grasshopper, it's colors are nice, dark body with green legs, exactly like the dark branch with green leaves, so it's a great camouflage
superb composition with great details

Hello Foozi,
This is a fine and interesting macro!
It shows with fine clarity from your compact the camouflage ability of this grasshopper, its body the same brown colour as the stem of this fern, while the legs are leaf green.
It is probably confined to a habitat where such colour combination is dominant. The sharpness and colours are excellent and the composition superb.
The short wings suggest that this is still in the nymph stage.
Thanks for this fine contribution.
Thanks and best regards,
