In the Orchid world, hybridization is quite common… This tall Orchid has characteristics of its both “parents”.

Orchis × spuria Rchb.f. (1849)
Family: Orchidaceae

This is not a species but a nothospecies or a natural hybrid formed by direct hybridization of two species, indicated by the “x”.
This one comes from the hybridization of Orchis militaris and Orchis anthropophora. The both “parents” are growing close, in the same meadow. It took the form and size of O.anthropophora and the colors of O.militaris.

Good Morning dear - the queen of the orchids:)

It is very interesting to see a hybrid amongst to orchids dear!
Realy an amazingly beautiful macro! I like the composition and use of shallow DOF. The colors are nice and warm as well.

Bonjour Catherine,
N'étant pas spécialiste des Orchis, je viens d'apprendre par ta note que l'hybridation est chose commune pour ces fleurs. Sur mon pré il y a plusieurs sortes et je n'ai jamais vraiment su comment les nommer, car il y a des teintes très différentes.
Une contribution précieuse à TN. Un grand merci.

Wonderful capture of this natural hybrid.Nice composition and colours. I think it is a long time since this hybris has been seen here in the UK.
Great notes explaining why it is a cross.
