|Hi Folks , today I have this little mosquito to share , if there is one thing that is very abundant now after our rather wet spring it is the mosquito...|
guessing buy the feathery antennae, this one is a male , in our area there are two main subspecies Anophelines and the Culicines, the Culicines rest with their proboscis at an angle underneath themselves , the Anopholines rest with it sticking straight out like this one has.
I am a little surprised at how hairy and frayed this fellas proboscis is.
the blood meal of mosquito is not mandatory part of their diet , at least the males , they can and do eat blood but can also get by just eating flower nectar , the female takes the blood meal for successful reproduction.
not a very popular insect , it gives me a scratchy spot just to look at ;-)
thanks for having a look
