Bearded Robin (Erythropygia quadrivirgata)

I had almost no time to take this picture. It came and sat on the branch, and was gone again a few seconds later. It was the one and only time I have seen this bird. The picture was taken inside Skukuza in the Kruger National Park.

HABITAT:
Lowland and riverine mixed woodland, forest and thickets, especially with thorny and grassy tangles along streams and dongas.

HABITS:
Solitary or in pairs. Secretive and seldom seen, but sings loudly; neighbouring birds often sing in reply. Forages in low bushes or by hopping on the ground, scratching among leaf litter, active mostly dawn and dusk, and on overcast days. Inactive in the heat of day, keeping to dense cover.

FOOD:
Insects, spiders and centipedes.

Hello Jan

This wee charachter could not have given you a better pose! The catchlight in the eye has brought the eye to life. Nice close details with good colour and sharpness. Nice work. Thanks.

Great shot DOF is good it might. Ek is net nuuskierig `n effens meer toe f-stop so die dalk die hele voel in fokus fehad het. Dalk `n goeie idee of nie?
