Moth like a little witch!

Usually, I take few photos of moths, but recently I realized how interesting they are insects.

Today I poxt a couple of pictures (both of poor quality, but good to see the species) of a strange black moth whose back is broken in two (as the dress of a little witch!) . It is a strange little bug! I found it in my "oregano" plants at the end of the evening, almost at nightfall.

Obviously, I need help with ID!

Hope you like it!

Thanks by stop and visit!

Interesting Moth Facts:

-Many females of the Tussock family of moths don't have wings

-The Hawk moth (Sphinx) is the worlds fastest flying insect attaining speed of over 50 kph

-Moth antennae are either feather like or a hair like filament.

-The Cecropia moth is North America's largest insect.

-Moths have hairy bodies to help retain internal body temperature necessary for flight.

-Quite a few moths fly during the day, such as the Hummingbird Clearwing, Virginia Ctenucha and the Spear-Marked Black.

-In colder climates some moths can have a two year life cycle.

-Some moth caterpillars, such as the "Io" are covered with stinging hairs.

-Moths make up 80 percent of the order lepidoptera.

-A small group of moths are called "Bird Dropping" moths because -you guessed it- that's what they resemble when they are at rest.

-Moths navigate by two methods. They use the moon and stars when available and geomagnetic clues when light sources are obscured.

-Cloth Moths eat such things as wool, fur and other animal products. It is their ability to digest Keratin ....... a protien found in these foods.

-Some moths pupate under ground. Such as many of the Sphinx moths.

-Moths heat up their flight muscles by vibrating their wings, since they don't have the radiant energy of the sun at their disposal to serve that purpose.

Hello Jesus,
Wonderful capture with very good details and colours.
Perfect composition and focus.
Nice POV and very good background.

Ciao Jesus,
una falena veramente particolare in cui il sistema bifronte per ingannare i predatori è molto interessate, hai reso le tonalità di nero in modo perfetto tanto che si possono apprezzare tutti i dettagli e riflessi metallici dei colori, eccellente collage.
Grazie e complimenti
Buon fine settomana
Ciao Maurizio

Hi Jesus,

I never knew there was such a moth! What's wrong with the quality of these picture? The two shades of black are marvelous and all of the details are superb. The textures are wonderful - love those antennae. Both views are exellent showing us every bit of your "witch." Very interesting to see the pretty oregano plant.

Hello Jesus,
Like a little witch, you are right! What a fabulous discovery! A very strange apparition indeed. A double picture of great interest and well taken, not easy with this shiny dark coloration.
Thanks a lot for this unusual posting.
Kind regards

Saludos Jesús.
